Do you have any 'Gizmo-freak' friends?

Seriously, I ain't much of a technology-man. I just use it for nominal purposes. But since I am an engineer in I.T. you know well I'm expected to have many techno-savvy friends. Indeed I do have about four or five such pals, and I find them quite funny and interesting. (with all due respect) However, they're generally intelligent people and I need their help when say, my PC is broken down or so. However, when they start blabbering about 'their world' I can help that long yawn of mine! Do you have any such friends? Mind sharing some experiences?

I work with some people who are like this, and I have some friends like this as well. They are constantly getting new cell phones and other gadgets as soon as they come out on the market. They will run out and get the new cell phone even if the one they have is working perfectly, and even though they have had the one they have for only a few months. They always have to have the latest video game systems, and the newest games that come out. On the other hand, I have been using the same cell phone for over a year. I still have a Playstation TWO, because I don't play video games enough to justify paying $500 or more for a PS3 or X-Box 360. I have had the same desktop for probably six or seven years, and have had the same laptop since probably 2005. My philosophy is not to replace an item as long as the one I have is doing what I need it to do. This includes cars, tools, and other items as well. I have only had the truck I have now for about eighteen months, but I drove the one I had before this one for almost nine years. I bought it brand new in 1999. I would probably still be driving it if I hadn't needed something with a little more seating in it. I have friends who got new vehicles at about that same time, and they have changed vehicles as many as four or five times since then. I guess it is OK to do so if you have the money, but I have more important things to use my money on.

I agree. There are many other important things to buy. I ain't much in favor of 'wasting' the money too; I only buy the stuff if it's inevitable. Anyway, I don't earn myself yet, but once I do, I'll try staying the same and not get carried away. Nice response :=)
