Does anyone think that artificial sweeteners cause behavior problems in small children? I believe that they affect my 4 yr. old grandchild and make him irritable and fussy , but my daughter disagrees with me. Does anyone have any personal experience in their family?

My grandson drinks my tea when he is here that has sweetner in it. sometimes he also drinks a diet coke which i always keep on hand. I have seen no difference in him. I get blamed for all the bad things he does so maybe it's his grandma

Hello Wilbet28 this is checkmail and often realise about the Artificial sweetners in some products of consumptions in the market. Most of them are some junk candies and chocolates for kids and adults. The artificial sweetners are made of some elements that are not good for our health.Even there are many cases of foodpoisoning and other problems because of artificial sweetners.Even some of the shopkeeper add some artificial sweetners to their made products which if consumed in more quanity may cause some serious problems. There should be proper track on the use and limit of it.

Yes it can be as bad as sugar itself. She may be having a reaction from it that your daughter contributes to something else. Rule of thumb -If you can't read everything that is in something don't eat it.

I have to disagree with Binthu. It's not personal, I disagree with a lot of people in the medical field. There have been studies done that have shown that people suffering all manner of disease have completely eliminated their symptoms simply by cutting out artificial sweetener. Of course that doesn't hold true for every one or every disease, but artificial sweeteners are chemicals which our bodies aren't designed to handle, so why put them in our bodies? There are natural sweeteners available such as xylatol and stevia that don't contain the calories of sugar.

I believe that anything that you put into your body that is artificial is not good. They are not made from nature, and all they are is chemicals that they have made in a lab some where. how can they be good for you. and any form of sugar artificial or not is not a good thing for anyone.
