I often come across blogs which have been abandoned after just a few posts, some of which were really interesting. I presume the blog was abandoned because the owner expected over night success and didn’t realise that to make a decent stab at blogging takes hard work. So for all those bloggers out there here are just a few things I have learned from running sites. Patience – “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and nor is a successful blog. Don’t expect to be getting masses of traffic or earnings immediately you need to learn how to make your blog content interesting and how to promote your site. Many blogs will take months of unrewarded work before they start to get regular traffic and earnings. SEO – otherwise known as Search Engine Optimization. By spending time learning how to optimize your blog and your content will save you much heart ache later when you are wondering why you don’t get much traffic. SEO is a huge topic but it is easy to learn and also fascinating even for those who are not technically minded. Content – with so many people blogging you need to make sure your content is unique to you and that you stamp your personality on it. Visitors who discover your blog only to find your content to be identical to others will more than likely clear off as you are giving them nothing new. So be original and make it yours. Bonus tip - If you are planning to make money using adSense on your blog make sure that you read the adsense TOS to make sure you are not violating the rules. Adsense wait till you reach the payment threshold and then check to make sure you are not in violation of their TOS, if they find you are then all that money is lost, you won’t see a penny of it. One of the most common violations is using a Traffic Exchange system to drive traffic to your site which is definitely not allowed.
