Iodine importance?

If you're pregnant, make sure your prenatal vitamins contain 150 micrograms (mcg) of iodine-only 51 percent do. Fetuses and babies need iodine to produce thyroid hormone, which is important for neurodevelopment, and a deficiency can cause mental retardation. That's why the American Thyroid Association recommends that pregnant as well as nursing women take a daily supplement containing 1150mcg of iodine to help them reach th RDA of 220mcg for pregnant women and 290mcg for nursing moms.

In my country, all eating salt must contain iodine by law. Besides that, we eat some seafood that are very high in iodine. You are absolutly right: iodine is basic to health.
