i live in a small town where everybody knows everybody....i always get a kick out of how in movies they make it out like small quits town everyone in the community respects everyone else and where all freinds..all it means when everyone knows everyone is that rumors are started everyday and everyone has something to says about everyone else...when i was a teenager i done some pretty stupid things that i thought where cool...now im 22 and i get no respect around town because everyone formed an opinion of me and no one trust me...one of the people i wouldnt say he was my freind but i associated with him recently got charged with embezzling money from the town...everyone in town besides his parents hate him and wanna run him outta town...the hearsay is so bad that people always get the wrong impressions about people and form oppinions... my question is do you live in a small town?? or big city??? what benifits do you feel you get from living in a small town??? what benifits from a large city??? Is your town over runned with people who form opinions, and think their way better than you???

I have always been a small town girl. Most of the towns i lived in while growing up had populations of less than 2000 people. My father is a police officer, and i was always good at keeping my nose clean, so i never really would have had to worry about that, but we also moved quite a few times, so even if there was something i had done in my past that i was afraid people would never forget and never stop judging me about, we were not there long enough for it to become an issue. The area in which i live now is actually the most populated area i have ever resided in. I would maybe go so far as to call it more along the lines of a small (very small) city as opposed to a town. I live in an area that is kind of the merging point for three towns, so it is more built up n this area. I have been here for ten years now, but still feel like such an outsider at times as i didn't grow up here. Many of my friends that i have now are from this area and have been all their lives, and constantly deal with gossip and rumors and the such, even in this bigger area.

I actually came from different country but no matter what, I still enjoy the big city. The reason I love to live in the big city because, it is easy to get around, have a great restaurant, I can find anything I want... etc.

Although I did not grow up in a small town, but I can feel what ur saying. I came to a small town following a job offer. Our family was labelled as outsider from the begining and no matter how much we have tried, it is almost impossible to change their perception. Now, we want to go back to the big city where we came from. It is without the doubt better. For example if you lose your job, you have much better chance finding soon as suppose to live in a small town. Also, the service and commerce is much better. In my town the pizza parlor closes at 8pm. So if you want pizza, you have to drive 35 mile to the next town to get it. There is hardly any after school program for my kids. My son likes hockey and again I have to drive him 40 miles for his practice. So in conclusion, Big city is the way to go.

I live in a neighborhood that is part of a township of 8,000. However we are surrounded by the city(66,000 population) with the same name. So I don't really think we live in the town other than as far as our tax bill is concerned. And I think a "big city" all depends on your perspective as I don't think I live in a big city, BUT when I went up for a soccer tourniment when I was in HS an hour north of us they call us "big city teams" & I thought "big city?" To me "big city" is like LA, NYC, Or Chicago ect, not my "city" So it's all in your point of view, but that town we played at they could drive 10 min and be nothing but farms where here they are sparce.

I live in a big city. The infrastructure is very convenient in city, including News, technology, market ,transport and information. In the big city, I can earn lots of money, enjoy my life, accomplish my dream. Every day I'm busy and made a progress.

WilliamC87 it is the same in bigs cities people no mater where you go will have their opinion on you rather they know you or not. I live in a big city and its the exact same way. I think that you need to move out to a biig city and you will see exactly what I mean. People are judgemental reguardless. I think the only upside to living in a big city is that you are exposed to more things when you live in a big city such as; attiitudes and personalities.

I have always lived in small towns all within about 20 minutes away from each other. Other then stores being close to walk to and having parks that are easy to get to, I really dont see an advantage. The bad is that everyone seems to think they know your business and then the rumors can fly. The funny thing is after a few people tell other people it is no where near the truth even if it started out as the truth. lol The other thing is I do think that if you do stupid things when young it does follow you, I think more then it would be in a city. Luckily I have never been in trouble. My most favorite thing is we basically live in the country although it is within town limits but we even have deer that go thru the yard and lots of other wildlife. Yeah Im a small town girl.

In small town it happens that something spread very easily all around and it becomes really difficult to keep something confidential between couple of rooms. Well I have this experience since I used to live for months at my native place. Well now I am living in great site and have a lot of friends and very busy life life and it feels great to meet our college and school friends as we all taking time from our busy schedule. In big cities we have a very busy life and it is even hard to have world with our neighbors but in small town life is very relaxed and it feels tired when we don't have anything to spent our time.

hmm, i think i can understand ur situation, though now i'm living in a big city. cause i come from a small town. i really dont know why they like to make rumors and spread rumors. but maybe the best way is to do ur best to prove urself in ur career, and help others. in the big city, i can get along with all kinds of excellent people. it's really not available in a small town. and can have better convenience in many other aspects, such as the transportation, career, etc...

I grew up in a small town but I go to college in a bigger city. I liked growing up in a small town because everybody knew everybody. My town wasn't so small that everyone always knew what everyone else was doing. I think I like the city more because everybody does not know me. It's easier to get by with things in a bigger city where everyone doesn't know each other.

I live in big city,,actually capital city of my country,, and I love big city! there's many facilities here compare with small town and people care about their own business,,but if we ask for help they will help but they won't really care or too curious since they're busy and don't have time to spread rumors. if the person against law then he will be punished, no need and no time to spread rumors. Only some opinion about celebrities that people will care. OMG..you must feel bad with those people who form opinion and aleays think they're right. Just ignore it. Actually this is one reason why I prefer big city than small town. Too many people know about us and everybody knows everybody. I prefer simple things,, if against the law then punish, think about your own business, help people who need helps, respect people and that's all^^,, Hope you and your friend condition will be better as soon as possible. Hey, why don't you move to big city? hehehe..

I am from Curacao, Netherlands Antilles (the largest island in the Netherlands Antilles) which is located in the Caribbean about 35 miles from the North coast of Venezuela and like 25-20 mins away from Aruba. Curacao has an area of 171 sq miles. And yes, it's pretty small hu? I have lived in Florida for 5 years and to be honest with you the first 2 years were amazing. I think that if you live somewhere and know that that's the place where you were born and raised, you get the feeling that you wish you lived somewhere else because you want to experience what it's like to be somewhere else. On this small island where I live, I just love it everyday. Of course you know the majority of the people and people try to live your life and try to compete with each other just to be better. You will find that everywhere you go and on a small island it's even more intense because there is not that much competition. When I was in FL, I have realized that there comes a point where you just have to accept the fact that there will be someone better looking than you out there, with a better car than you, with a bigger house, and lots of other material-type of stuff. There is too many competition. You might be asking why I moved back to the small island. The reason is that since there is not much competition and people here need to improve on the majority of things going on here, I have the opportunity to be creative and start a business that can benefit the people from Curacao. The chances for me to start a business in FL or in the United States is small because there is too many competition and if you want to do something unique, there is a 99% chance that my idea is already out there competing. And to top it off, on a small island people know you well that you have to know how to behave properly and maintain your reputation. The moment something bad happens, everybody else will know. That is the only thing that kind of sucks about it. Everybody has to dig into your business. And if one day you decide to buy an expensive car, for example a Porsche Cayenne (which there is only 4 on the island), people start thinking that it is impossible for you to have such a car on a small island because they don't think that it could be possible for you to buy it. They actually think the person is involved in doing "dirty jobs".

I guess where ever you live may it be small town or big city there will always be people who have one track minds people who forms opinions on others thinking they are better than them. I grew up in the city and we live in a neighborhood full of such people. Just because they have more money they think of others as if their inferior to them. Best you can do I suppose is to do the best you can to achieve something that will make your family proud of you and prove to those people who had judged you that you are better than what they think you are and that you can achieve something really good. I used to live in a city where everything is available, near everything that I ever need, but now I live in a town and yes there are still a lot of people who thinks they are better than others and yes not everything is available here but I just mind my own business and just enjoy life. Living quietly and happily with my hubby and little girl.

I live in shanghai, a big city, which I am proud of. It has become a commercial and cultural center, with a lot of activities going on around us. For the coming 2010 world expo, we are launching residence building, subway construction, and other municipal infrastructures several years in advance. We are expecting a better city for the benefit of common people. Big cities also have their disadvantages, for instance, too much crowd, too many traffic, and the dazzling luxuries beyond affordability, etc. In this sense, esp. for people in financial difficulty, maybe a small town would help easier balance of heart and soul.

I enjoy quiet and peaceful life and i don't worry about i will be behind the fashion because we can buy and search everything in our computure.

I prefer to live in a small town,as you no so much stress form the live. But I think I could not 100% understand your felling. As I live in a bog city. We need to think how to live, how to live better everyday... And only several friends.... I would try to earn much money in the big city, and move to a small town when I am old.....

I live in a suburb outside of a major city. I still get that neighborhood feel, but I am only 5-10 minutes away from city life. I think it is a more relaxed environment in a suburb as opposed to the city - in the city it is always go-go-go, in the suburb you can take time off from the frenetic city life. In a way, you feel freer in the city because people are doing their own things, and it is so diverse you can find almost anything you like, and others who like the same things. I guess I have the better of both worlds. I don't think I would like to live in a small town - maybe the community is tighter, but to me it would seem cut off from grander things.
