Yes i have heard about it, though i don't remember a lot of the details right off hand. A few years back, my company also adopted this philosophy and we had training classes and all watched this really cool video describing it. Basicly it has to do with working as a team and having fun at your job, while still accomplishing specific goals in a more effective manner.

My company has always placed importance on customer service and a fun work environment, but for a while there, it did seem to be even MORE fun and exciting at work, but it kinda sank back to its normal level after while, as most things like this usually do. During the training we watched a video, as i said, about the fish market that this idea sprang from. It was actually really cool, and explained a lot of the basic ideas of this philosophy while being entertaining. Basicly these guys toss fish around back and forth all day, and if they didn't have fun, and work as a team, people would be getting smacked with halibuts or fish would b falling all over the floor all day. As for some of the other activities, we did team building exercises, focusing on the importance of teamwork. One group of people got to go into another room and work on a small "project" together, while the others had to work on the project individualy. The group that worked together had much more success at finishing the project on time, and had fun while doing it, while those who had to do the work by themselves didn't do near as good of a job, and were stressed out about it. Also for the first little while after the training class at work, we had a fish shaped piece of paper that circulated around. whenever you saw someone doing an awesome job at what ever they were working on, you would write thier name on the fish and pass it to them, and they then had to do the same, look for someone doing an exceptional job and pass it on. At the end of each week, the people whose names appeared on the fish all got small tricket of appreciation, and the person who was on their the most recived a gift certificate for free lunch. It was a way of learning to recognize the hard work and showing appreciation to those around you at work. As it is late, and i am too lazy to type out the entire URL (my apologys, but i would probably mis-type it anyways) i suggest going to wikipedia and searching for FISH! philosophy. Lots of interesting infor there on what it is about, how it cam about, and ways to help in using it at work.

I haven't heard of that philosophy or even experienced what you have described at the place where I work. It would be nice if that would be the environment at work so that we won't get board as well as we would be more motivated to be productive.

Yeah, it does really look interesting but, I think I have to be realistic with where I work. It seems like it wouldn't implement something like that anytime soon.. (-_-")

The company that I used to work for adopted this philosophy. I donĀ“t remember alot about it, it was about 10 years ago and I am not working now. What I do remember is that it was alot of fun, we watched a movie about team building in a fish market, I believe in California or somewhere along the west coast. Our office staff really liked it, it made everyone realize how important their job was and what their contribution was to the office.
