How can I become a IT proficient

I'm a student in China ,a not very good university and I have studyed IT for one year,but I know nothing about it ,so ,how can I do ?
I think China is weak at this aspect,so I want to go aboard,but,My family can't bear the money ,so I just want to by myself to success!~

Well, first of all, perhaps you need to decide which field you are interested in, whether the software development or hardware/server configuration, database. I suppose the Internet is full of resources, you will be able to learn a lot from the Internet. Many companies, such as Microsoft, Sun Microsystem do provide some learning resources online for free, and they provide the roadmap for you to study too. There are also many technical certificates for you to take.
I don't think China is weak in IT, as I've seen several China professional blogs about IT. Good luck to you!! ^_^

When I was still I have never learn that much from school. I have most of it on my own and with the help of other friends. I used to go to library to study some thesis that have been made by other students, and I learned many things from it. And lastly make internet as your friend, you can find useful tips and source code from it. Hope this could help you.

But in China,The books about English in the library are almost for band four or six test,maybe you are right,I should study by myself,after all it's my own thing thank you
