Boredom

Boredom I can knit and I can crochet, I can read and I can write, I can use a computer, So, why am I bored tonight? There's plenty in the house That I could and should do. So why am I not doing it? Does this happen to you? There's gardening and cross stitch And photography to try But am I doing anything? Oh no, not I. I'm sitting here bemoanin' The fact that I am bored. Oh, look I wrote a poem! I think the poems finished. So I will have to go Right back to being bored And watch a TV show. First question, do you ever feel like this? And, do you like the poem, can anyone identify with it?

It is because you need to learn something new. You know how to do all those things, and you've done them again and again, and have become pretty good at them i'm sure. You need a new skill. Something challenging. Figure out what you want to learn, and go for it.

Good point. There's such a lot to learn though.

What a good idea. You're probably right and learning a new skill would relieve the boredom. Why didn't I think of that?

Wow a nice poem! You write a poem very well, that makes me think you're not bored at all, like you're just having fun under the sun... But beneath the rhythm and rhyme, I can feel a soul longing for a thousand splendid rays of the golden sun. Do I suck at poems? LOL

Everyone who wants to can write a poem, I like yours. The good thing about poetry is that it can be good and enjoyable and bad and enjoyable. as long as you like writing it, it doesn't matter.

Thanks! I think I enjoy poetry now. LOL Maybe you can make a discussion and force everyone to respond in poetry form. How's that?

Frequently my friend, frequently, if I really put my mind to it I could think of lots of things to do but to do them requires energy, enthusiasm and a mind that would find something else less boring to do. Trouble is when I get bored I have a very bad habit of gambling which is not good! I tend to end up losing cash so I try hard not to be bored so I don't let my idle hand become the devils playthings and start playing the slots. I do find the heat affects my boredom more and I tend to have the boredom problem during the Summer months more than the Winter months when I am more active and not so lethargic. I used to write my feelings out in poetry, I still have my poems from old but they are depressing reading as I wrote them at the height of my depression.

Lots of people I know use poetry as an outlet for their sadness, I just shout at Mr Croc then write silly poems like: Spring Garden The garden in spring Is a wonderful thing It's full of long grass And of weeds. The camomile lawn, It looks all forlorn And the thyme It has all gone to seed. To the herbs in the garden I must beg your pardon. During winter, you know, The weeds didn't show And it was too cold To stay out in the garden. So we'll sweat and we'll toil To turn over the soil And make it look nice for the summer. But next spring you will see The weeds there, whoopee! Isn't gardening a real b****r?

The poem was great...well done. I'm in the same boat as you but I'm never bored...guilty, for sure because I have so many things to do and I spend most of my time here at the computer.

I have plenty to do, I think the internet had gone down for a while when I wrote the poem, isn't that terrible, lots to do but no internet so boredom sets in. What did I do before the internet? Glad you liked the poem.

I think some times we just get burnt out and nothing satisfies us, when we say bored it means to me tired of doing the same things every day, like eating the same thing every week, (meatloaf on Mondays, fried chicken on Sundays, etc. We are looking for something that looking for a new challenge and if you talking about things that need done around the house, isn't there always things that need done, and sometimes always the same things. I know I get bored with washing the dishes to a point I won't eat. When I get into this shape I usually go take a nap and things look better when I get up.

Taking a nap is always a good option, if I believed in re-incarnation I'd like to come back as a sloth, maybe then I'd get all the naps I needed.

i have a similar discussion regarding boredom. and yes, there are a lot of times when i felt so bored and even depressed i guess. and for those times i learned how to cope or avoid it. read on.. being bored actually means losing motivation to do anything..setting our mood first before anything else will do the trick. . try to pamper yourself like take a warm bath, do your own body spa at home. try this: squeeze lemon in sugar or iodized salt, so refreshing! or you can go outdoors, and enjoy the fresh air. anything that will make you feel good. be creative! :) that's it. happy mylotting!

Thank you. A relaxing bath in lavender often helps me. I'm also lucky enough to have a daughter who is a qualified holistic therapist and she does a lovely relaxing massage.

Good poem nanna! I love it: terse verse that rings so true :-) Lol, and yes, I sure can identify with it...totally! I didn't use to have problems with boredom, but now that my fingers swell with the arthritis and all, I find I have many days and evenings like that. At least I can still type fairly well, though a pencil to draw, a pen to write, or even my crochet hook is more than often really hard to do. So, that's when I find I really get the boredom, and it just 'gets to me'. Keep writing...you're a natural!

It's more frustrating when your body stops you doing things you'd like to be doing. Thanks for the comments on the poem.

Yep, there's only so much you feel like doing and then you just get bored even though there's plenty to do. I think maybe your brain just can't be bothered telling ya what you want to do, so you just get bored and try and find something to occupy yourself with, I usually do random quizzes.

Trouble is that I can't concentrate long enough to do a quiz if I'm bored.

It doesn't happen with me often but it's a pain when it does because I can't settle to anything. Take care, gabs.

I certainly can I have loads of craft things and sewing projects I could be doing but I often find myself bored and I just don't feel like doing any of those things. I got a new sewing machine recently it's a small one I got specifically to make dolls clothes (I restore Sindys as a hobby) and I haven't even used it yet other than to thread it once to test it. I've been working a lot on my blog recently that has distracted me from the goal of starting to make clothes for the Sindy I'm currently working on.

That's the problem sometimes, there are so many things we want to do it's hard to decide which, for me that's when the boredom sets in.

I can't knit and I can't crochet But my computer skills are out of sight It doesn't matter, come what may I talk to my friend Nanna on a sunday night and if that doesn't cheer you up then all is lost. I am you and I wasn't bored. Where were you then? I thought that you were with me.

Thank you, I like that. I was bored waiting for someone to talk to. I wasn't bored once they turned up though.
