I was frustrated the other night, due to my laptop computer was infected with spyware virus. I couldn't get into Windows xp again after it was restarted. It started with a warning pop - up about my computer was infected with potential trojan horse, and tell me to block it by clicking yes on it. I thought it was my AVG software sending the warning, it turns out to be a spyware. As soon as I clicked "yes" on the pop - up window, the whole system just splash with infected with virus. After that, you knew the whole story. I was tiring of windows, so I installed Ubuntu now, and erased the infected Windows. Now, it is running okay again with Ubuntu. Beware of Spyware here, guys.

Thanks for your aware. i am using ubuntu too (inside my windows).. To prevent spyware, i am using spyware terminator real time protection. It's freeware, you can check and try it if you like I never have pop-ups because my anti-spyware block it..it is very useful for my laptop and the important thing is not even get my laptop run slower slightly.

Every day before going to bed, I turn on the AV software. It does a cleaning and is squeaky clean by morning. Not that it takes so long to clean the system. It just runs down every adware and malware. Having a firewall also helps.

Spyware is such a pain. I don't know if you have enough space on your hard drive, but if you decide to re-install Windows XP back on your system you can still keep Ubuntu (giving you a dual boot option)along with Windows. You might try Malwarebytes as a your spy removal software. I've found that Spybot Search and Destroy is no longer effective with extracting viruses, worms and spyware from your registry. I guess the hackers have found out ways around Spybot. You can find Malwarebytes at the following link: http://www.malwarebytes.org/.

I have been very familiar with these spywares trojans and all. And I must say, that was a good move, installing Linux. Linux claims that there are only 60-70 viruses which can harm it. It has probably the highest security against these malwares. Well, in future use a good antivirus alongwith a firewall installed. Good luck!

Windows alwayz getz infceted with spyware and other virus. You coud have used some good anti spyware and should have installed a better antivius system. The database of the antivirus should be updated frequnetly. else newer viruses will not be detected. same is the case with spyware. infact more harmfull. they ca loot your data. So switch to linux. feel freee. Go Green!

Spyware and malware seem to really be a problem. I suppose one should have a good program to remove and prevent the install of spyware programs.

I hate spyware :( Sorry that happened to you, I know that it is so frustrating. I'm glad you got your laptop working again, I hope Ubuntu works out better for you. Just a reminder to everyone to always back up the stuff on your computer!! You never know when a virus is going to hit.

Spyware doctor is a very good spyware remover because it also includes registry scan aside from file scans, network scans, startup scans, etc. and protects your PC from being infected again. You can serach it on the internet. The cons of Spyware doctor is that it uses much system resources to make your system slows down. I now recommend Avira antivir for it is better than AVG when detecting new forms of threats.

Hi,I'm a Federo 12'user.I always believe that it's not worthy spending time defending the infection of virus.Everyday we update the anti-virus program, but it really block my internet! I can't stand the trouble windows take to me,as well as the unbelievable cost. I have a dream that every programmer codes for linux to make linux strong in every field, so I can totally get tired of windows.
