Ideas for tour of East Coast America!?

July 27, 2009 5:34pm CST
I'm hopefully going to book a trip around the east coast of America next summer as a 18 year old student with my 17 year old cousin. We are going to travel from NY to Pittsburgh then to Philly and through Baltimore to DC. We have that planned pretty much for definite although can anyone recommend anything we can do in those cities/in between? and have any tips for travel? Thanks very much for the help!

Plymouth Plantation, Plymouth Ma. - 1627 English Village

The 1627 English Village is a re-creation of the small farming town built by English colonists in the midst of the Wampanoag homeland. Find yourself immersed in the year 1627, just seven years after the voyage of the Mayflower. In the village you will be surrounded by the modest timber-framed houses, fragrant raised-bed gardens, well-tended livestock and fascinating townspeople of Plymouth Colony, the first permanent English settlement in New England.
I would suggest stopping in Boston, Ma and perhaps Plymouth, Ma and Salem,Ma. There is so much history there. I live 30miles south of Boston, 45 miles from Salem and 20 miles from Plymouth so I visit these areas frequently. Here are some great activities for these areas. Thanks for the help, I hadn't considered visiting Boston as we did not know anybody we could stay with there, although will have to look into it now...how long does it take to get to New York from Boston?

NYC is a very cool city and you could probably spend a week there without seeing everything. I agree with a previous poster in that I would definitely make a trip to Boston and because I love the beach, I would definitely detour to Cape Cod and to Miswuamicut Beach in Rhode Island. DC is a great place to visit and you could probably spend two very busy weeks there without seeing everything. This will be a great trip for both of you. Personally not crazy about Pittsburgh or Philly and would skip those to get to the coast ASAP.

Just be careful. Not everyone is nice. Keep your money and documents in a safe place. Big cities are crowded so there is more crime. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. try to stay off the roads during rush hours or you will be spending a lot of time driving and waste a lot of gas. In NYC you can see Broadway shows for half price if you go to the half price ticket booth at 42nd street. You can tickets that have not sold for that nights show. All the theatres give them their leftovers. In Washington DC you can do so much for free. Besides just seeing the monuments you can visit fantastic museums for free. Have fun! and be safe! :)
