How long does it take you to travel to work?

I have had a variety of jobs in Melbourne and in Thailand. I had one job where I traveled about 50 kilometers across Melbourne. The trip took obout one hour and twenty minutes. In Thailand, I had a bus trip that sometimes took over an hour. This was followed by a motor cycle taxi for a further fifteen minutes. So, myLotters, how long does it take you to get to work?

I travel 6 kilometers (one way) to my work place. I use my motorcycle from my home to office. It takes around 10 to 15 minutes depending on the traffic on particular day. Earlier I used to travel around 35 kilometers (one way)when I was with my previous work. It used to take at least 45 minutes for 35 km. I feel lesser distance is very much comfortable.

Sounds like you made a good choice when you changed jobs, yeomanly. Is there a lot of traffic where you live? Thank you for responding.

I travel about 13 kms to my work. If I go on my bike(motorcycle) it takes me about 18-20 minutes, if I go by car it takes me around 40 minutes to reach my office. While coming back it takes around 30-35 minutes to reach home on bike, and around 45-50 minutes by car

When I used to work, I took company bus about an hour for work. It was in a then newly developed zone. Every day, when people had a make up sleep, I leisurely watched outside the window. Over years, great changes took place. Trees grew up, giving shadows. Farmfields were turned to residence blocks. Supermarts opened and population densified. It is so good for eyes to reach far, esp. to catch green and nature. Now retired, and mostly staying downtown, I miss my bus rides.

Hi zhuhuifen, when I worked in Thailand, the industrial sites were a long way from the residential areas, and they had the same system. A bus would pick up yhe employees from various parts of the residential area, and take them to work. In the evening they would go home the same way. I taught at a few internetional companies, and the industrail estates were really well planned with a lot of greenery. I can understand you missing that part of your life. Thanks for your reply.

Wow, that adds two hours to your work day. That's 50%, which makes it a very long day. I bet you appreciate all your extra free time now that you're working close to home. Thank you for your reply.

Thank you tigeraunt, that's probably about average, and really isn't too bad. But heavy traffic can be a pain, especially after a frustrating day at the office. Thanks for your contribution.

I travel by my motorbike. It takes me around 20 minutes. And yet still, some colleagues commented that my home is far from the working place. They wonder why I am willing to travel so much. To me, 20 minutes travel is not far. In fact, I prefer not to stay any where near working place.

Motorbike is probably the quickest way to travel to work, but I don't know that it's the safest. Thanks for your input starlight.

Hi. I travel for 1 and a half hours to get to my office. Though the distance is around 20 kms, due to the bad peak hour traffic, it invariably takes me 1.5-2 hrs to reach work! :( I drive a car now..but earlier when I used to bike it, it used to take me around 45 minutes to 1 hr. That is the worst part about travelling so much to office. But I have no other alternative except to leave my job if I don't want to travel this distance.

I had a job when I was young where the train and bus trip took about one and a half hours. It was ok at first, but became such a drag after six months that I asked for a transfer. Traveling for that long makes it a very long and tiring day. Thank you for your response.
