Checking the frying pans did not want to ask the price

I went to our usual big box store, Superstore, and decided well to look into a medium sized frying pan. Now I did nor want a cheap one, so I went to look for a copper bottomed one heavy stainless steel. Well I already had a large one and the price was on it, and the price was also on the smaller sized one, but not on this one. Also there was a sale and the large one was on about ten percent off. My friend said that she would check for me, but I said no. I had a feeling that the regular price of the medium sized one was the price of the large one less ten percent. In other words, the medium sized one would be the same size now as the larger sized one. So I was wondering are you as suspicious as I am when there is a sale on and yet the price is not shown on one of the items?

I usually figure if they don't put the price on something that it went up in price to be more then the larger item and they do not want you to know. They want you to go to the cashier, and since there is a long line up behind you, to buy it anyway, because you do not want the people behind you to get mad at you if the cashier has to call someone to take it back or you have to go back yourself.

around here, they just set it aside and let the "returns" return it later in the day

They put them back right away, but with the food they put it on the 50 percent shelf. It is a wonder they have enough staff to do so though. Seems they are always short of cashiers.

YEs for the sales they put up the price then take off the % off. So you really dont get a good deal now if its 50% off I would really look at it!

That is what my husband thinks. I really think that there might be scratches and they have to get rid of them. And I thought all the prices went up on everything because of that stupid cap and trade and having the oil and gas prices go up down there and we Canadians got caught in the overflow.

I hate when that happens, I usually will just stick it in the cart and then check the price out at the checkout. If it is more then I am willing to pay I will put it back. Some stores have those price scanners scattered over the store so people can check out the prices, but at times of sales..it might not have the actual sale price loaded into it.

We have too few cashiers and too many people at our checkouts, and some of the latter are the 'take out one item at a time,' and so I do not want to hold up a line while a saleslady calls a boy to find out the price and what was really on sale.We do have a customer service desk though, but I am not that used to the one at Superstore, as I was at the one at SAfeway.

No that would not make me suspicious at all. You did not say if both brands were the same if they were not one brand could be on sale the other not. The tag could have fallen off. They were overstocked in the large size. Bottom line for me I always ask a salesperson if I am unclear on the pricing.

The store has their own brands, and this was the top of the line. So I really wanted this one, as I want pans that last. I am sick and tired of having ones where the bottom is scratched and the handles fall off, they cannot go into the oven, and they cannot hold the heat.

Yes, I believe they do that in sales. I feel like they just mark down one item, and they make it up on another. I think they do not use loose any money, they are not going to allow that to happen. Have a blessed day.

That is what my husband says, so we usually stick to the basics and then know when we can get a bargain. But with frying pans and other items, we only buy them when one breaks or the one we have is either too large or too small. Right now I am looking for a medium sized frying pan and the last time I was at Superstore they had been sold out. Maybe I will have to wait until my husband or someone gives me Christmas money. The trouble with that is that it will have to go on paying off our credit card debt and that means the frying pan will have to wait.

Its not that I get suspicious I think they don't mark them for a reason so you will have to ask and do a little shopping on your own and compare that price with the other one. Now if you knew the original price then you could determine if its a sale or if they are just getting rid of some overstock.

That sounds like a good idea. Only I wonder if with prices are going up, whether the regular price now is higher then the regular price a while ago. It is easier with groceries since we buy them all the time, but with frying pans or stuff we only buy every ten years or so, that makes it hard.

I don't get worried about asking for the price of items if the price isn't on the box or whatnot. I usually know roughly how much the price is before I go shopping, so that helps as well.

If the price is not clearly shown on the shelf, a sign or on the item itself, I find out before proceeding to checkout. I've been fooled by shelf prices not being accurate. I was charged the correct price and was going to take the item back and ask for the $2 I was "overcharged." However, when I went back to the store and looked at the shelf price I saw that it had been changed to display the price I had been charged.

I'm always suspicious of sales like that. Unless something is marked down 40% or more, I'm quite sure that the store has raised prices so that nothing is really on sale but only looks that way. This is a favorite strategy of going out of business sales (GOOB). Walmart does it occasionally, and I qualify it because I've only kept track of a couple of items and their prices. With GOOBs, if you look under the sale tag, many times you'll find a lower price than the "sale" price. I suspect the same is true of most retail stores!

yes, i am. actually, i make it a point to ask how much the item is before checking it out. I don't like getting surprised at the cashier and realize that the item is way beyond my budget!

I always double check the price because many times I find that the item I want is even less than originally thought. The pans sound so nice. Did you ever find out how much the pan was that you wanted or if it was the price that you thought. My last encounter was for a leather coat that was supposed to be on sale. When I got to the check-out counter I found that it had been marked down again since the original sale and then there was a slight rip in the jacket that I knew how to fix so there was even more money off. I felt like I almost got it for free.

There was nothing wrong with the pan and no scratches in the finish, but it was a bit too expensive then for me to get. I had to get other things and since my younger son's wedding is coming up I need shoes and a purse and I have not finished pay8ng for the outfit I got, I also had to use part of my money for groceries, so I could not afford it. I will wait until there is another sale.

No, i am not as suspicious as you are. if there is not a price on something i want i will ask someone. sometimes if i can fine one of those price machine some store have i will scan the item myself. if i thought it was to much i just will not buy it until it goes on sale. i will use the ones i have at home which will work just as well as the one i wanted to buy.

The last frying pan I got was from the money I got for Christmas from my husband because he did not know what to get me. I already have a small sized one that I got as a gift, and I wanted a medium sized one. I do have a couple of teflon pans, but do not like them as well. I also have some cast iron pans but they are not that good on those ceramic tops (leave black marks, etc.) although I do love them for stews and such. If it had been $10, I probably would have bought it but that was the price of the smallest pan.
