My favorite aunt was diadnosed with Alzheimer. She is in the stage that forgets things and names. Right now she lives alone but the doctor said she must have someone nearby day and night.
Her daughter who works and has her own problems, has been thinking of a caregiver. But I feel I can do something with more love for her if I only knew how.
Can you help me? Have you gone through this? What can I do to help?

Hello marguicha!
Unfortunately, people with Alzheimer are very difficult to take care for, meaning that they can reach a stage when they don't even recognize you, even if you are their favorite nephew. They can even become a danger to themselves, like forgetting the way home, or even their name. But if you want to help your aunt it's important to consider her a little child. It doesn't matter if you tell her something once, or twice, she is due to forget it, so you better do that thing for her or assist her in doing it.
There are medicines that reduce the rate of brain cells degeneration, and even stop it, but the promising treatments are still new. I hope you will find a way to help her, and that she will feel the love you all have for here right to the end.

I have not gone through that situation before. But i think you can help her by assisting her with her activities of daily living. I learned that if you want to care for someone with Alzheimer's you have to have a routine schedule. Like for example, waking up, eating meals, taking a bath, you must have an exact time to do this. Tell her stories of the past and INCREASE YOUR PATIENCE. it really is a must.
