There are all kinds of luxury in this world. When I went to Egypt many years ago all I wanted was clean clear water. To them - this was a luxury. I remember going to a restaurant and being told not to eat the vegetables since they are grown with polluted nile water. I have stayed in 5 star hotels where luxury meant having a shower that could fit 12 people! or a balcony that ran the length of the hotel! or having a pillow menu before you went to sleep. Luxury is different in different places. I have been in areas where the majority of the homes do not have air conditioning so just having that in your hotel room was a luxury. Great thread! Ciao :)

Dear TrvlArrngr, You make my day, thank you... I am very happy to hear from you! THANKS! I went to Egypt with my family last November. Great place but you are right, 'water is luxury there!' It cost USD1 for a 500ml per bottle of drinking water. My son who loves to drink water...appreciate it very much! Pillow menu? I am amazed! I believe many myLotters who read you views here will be astonish too - on how 'luxury' a word that can take many shapes & sizes at different place to different people! Thanks for sharing, appreciate it very much! Do keep in touch!

To many a luxury means acquiring something beyond their basic needs. To me, luxury means I am able to enjoy life or get what I wanted without incurring any cost on my part!

Dear whyaskq, A very well coined definition on "luxury"..and totally amazed with you...we think alike!!!...luxury means we are able to enjoy life or get what we wanted without incurring any cost on our part! Yes, I would like to share on this particular 'luxury' as we both agreed upon as above. I wrote about Holiday Inn - Malacca and its aromatherapy spa treatment in my blog (Multiply) which can be access via my profile! (June's blog) I and my son won a hotel / spa retreat courtesy of Holiday Inn, Malacca. We got free 2 nights stay with buffet breakfast, and 2 sets of aromatherapy spa treatment for couple! It is really a 'luxury' since it is my FIRST time experiencing spa. Previously I had 2 free spa by Palace of the Golden Horses, but I am not so 'open' ...not expose..so I did not use it, what a waste! Wonderful hotel, sumptious spread of international buffet breakfast... it is totally 'luxury', it was all for FREE! Thank you so much to the management of Holiday Inn Hotel, Melaka! I really enjoyed my stay there, their pillows are great too! Thanks for sharing and do keep in touch! Cheers!

Luxury for me would be day at the spa. I would be able to spend time in a warm bubbling jacuzzi. I would be able to take a swim in a lovely warm blue swimming pool. The sauna would be hot and steamy. It would be an incredibly relaxing day out for me. I would need a baby sitter for my toddler son and my baby girl. I am really keen on traveling and am an independent traveler. I choose to travel in economy class. All classes go to the same destination and it is not worth paying for luxury. I got a free upgrade from the Male in the Maldives to London. Wow! That was pure luxury and excellent in flight service. I love to visit tropical islands. I came in at the budget end for these luxury sort of destinations: the Seychelles and the Maldives.

For me these days, as I've cut back a lot in this economy, luxury is to eat lunch or dinner out once a month. But it does seem like a real treat when not done often :) I am saving my change toward a weekend away, hopefully this fall or coming summer. Karen

Dear PeacefulWmn9, Thank you for sharing your views here, really appreciated it very much! It is so true, having a wonderful meal outside once in awhile is a 'luxury' too! Due to the economic slowdown, I and my family will go out for some 'seafood restaurant' once in a month during payweek. Not need to cook for a day is my 'luxury' too, that means have more time for myLotting! Yes, those loose coins in the jar can be accumulated towards your weekend away! Keep myLotting & earn more for the Fun and for the Fund!

Before my boy was born, my husband and I will take off to a holiday far far away once every year. We in Malaysia are lucky as we have many festive holidays. I usually go off during the Hari Raya holidays. Chinese New Year are meant to be with family, so no holidays during that time. I am contented that I've travelled to quite a number of countries that I dont regret anything now that I've stopped travelling because of my son. Having said all that, luxury to me doesnt meant having the means to travel. Luxury to me is being able to do what I want, as I wish. Now, being a stay at home mother, I hardly have the luxury to do anything I want, as I wish. My days are worked around my little boy. When can I go online? When can I read the papers? When can I sleep? All these has to go around my boy's time. If I can sleep when I feel like sleeping, online when I feel like online and go to spa when I feel like it, that will be LUXURY to me! But, until my boy grows older, those will all be wishful thinking!

Dear submerryn, Time passes by very fast... without you realising your boy will be a big boy...and you & family can start travelling again! So..have to do a bit of planning now...get another baby fast....so no need to wait again... Yes, I truly understand your feeling...when I am on 'duty' to fetch my son to school on weekdays, I have to wake up extra early to prepare breakfast and send him to school. At that point of time, if I can sleep another extra 1 hour, it is 'luxury' to me! Thanks for sharing and God Bless you & family!

Hi, This topic makes me hoping to strike the 'jackpot' or winddfall..because I really hope to enjoy some 'luxury' for myself and my family. Having a washing machine will be a 'luxury' Relaxing in a 'aromatherapy bubble bath and massage' is one type of luxury too. Flying on a First Class cabin in along hauled flight with meals served on 'China bone' and air stewardess address me by name...will be something I been hoping :)

Dear James, Flying in First Class Cabin in a long hauled flight to a exotic destination is definitely a 'luxury'! A visit to a Balinese aromatherapy massage & spa will be a great treat and enjoy an international buffet spread in a five star hotel will indeed make my day :) Getting a jackpot is not easy BUT it is not IMPOSSIBLE! Good luck to you and once you win the 'jackpot', do bring me along to enjoy those 'luxuries' you mentioned!

Anything that I do that is not my normal routine consider luxury to me! I will be good luxury, if I have an hour extra in my day to spend time in front of my laptop; I can have those 'cuisine' like japanese, italian, french... I am contented with what I have, and I am happy of what I am going through... and if anything more, it's already luxuries!

Dear cwong77... Yes, totally agree with you...all mothers with young children with lots of tasks at hand, if there is extra time for us to spend totally on ourselves is truly 'luxury'! But, it is really worth it, the quality time we spent with them, seeing our children learns to call us 'mummy', crawl, walk, run, it is pleasure beyond luxury too... keep it up and all the best! Thanks for sharing and do keep in touch!

i think there are two types of luxury in life. the non-material and the material aspect. for the non-material aspect these are intangible luxuries in life. for example, having time to accomplish task is already a luxury. in today's busy world, you can't help but have too many tasks to accomplish with so little things to do. that's why sometimes when a friend invites me to go out and take a vacation i would say, "sorry, i don't have the luxury of time." well, that's just one of the luxuries in life though. an example of the material aspect would be being able to afford the finer things in life. like maybe go to hawaii anytime you want; cruise on a luxurious yatch; buy a top-of-the-line car; or being able to afford expensive jewelries. having money in your pocket that never runs out i think is the best material luxury there is.

Dear tomjoad, I really admire your definition of 'luxury'. It covers both aspect! You are very special..I noticed you have an eagle eye view, where you can see things from both sides, from different perspective, thinking 'out of the box' - it's an asset, gifted..keep it up, polished it, I think you will be the next 'tycoon' soon! Once you are a great 'tycoon' / billionaire, you will have the luxury of 'money in the pocket that never runs out', do remember me and we will enjoy all the material and non-material luxuries.. All the best & do keep in touch! Have a nice weekend (that's a luxury too!)
