Evacuate or Else!!!!!!!!!!!

I just heard an announcement that the State of Texas will implement a new law effective September 1. It provides authority to arrest any citizen who refuses a mandatory evactuation notice, such as the ones issued last fall when Hurricane Ike was about to hit our area. There are always some people who ignore the warnings, at their own peril. There are still some bodies missing from the storm surge Ike brought. The proponents of the law point to the dangers to rescue people in the midst of the storms when the stragglers change their minds. No doubt there is a danger. And perhaps arrest might save lives of those so foolish as to stay in the face of danger. Still I wonder about such a law. What do you thinK?

I think that's a good idea I dunno about arresting them & toss'n them into jail exactly but some sort of punishment to say when we mean LEAVE..... LEAVE!

I think it would be more to my liking to make it a big fine than the arrest.

No one would ask you to evacuate if it was not necessary, people who stay behind are fools.putting their lives at risk and that of the emergency services who will have to rescue them.Who one earth would want to stay with a hurricane coming or a flood or fire.I think the police are right to prosecute someone who stays behind,it is just fool hardy and daft.

There is no question about the foolishness of staying when a mandatory evac is called. It is just the idea of someone being told they cannot stay to try to protect the property from vandals and looters after the fact.
