Recently David Walker went before congress and gave his report. Who is David Walker? He is the comptroller general for the US. The report he gave was neithe political nor emotional but statistically factual and yet hardly anyone in Washington listened of gave any indication they understood what he was saying. If you will read the following article and not pre-judge it because Glen Beck is the interviewer you will find out exactly what he was saying---THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS BROKE,PERIOD! The entitlement programs we already have in place are untenable in their present form, much less with another entitlement program like universal healthcare! The present cost of social security, medicare and medicaid is 53 TRILLION dollars per year and it continues to grow at a rate of 2-3 TRILLION per year if we just do nothing! If you are thinking that we will just tax the rich a little more, well, think again. Here is an excerpt of the interview: GLENN: It's my understanding when people say tax the rich, they need to pay more, it is my understanding that you could take all of the income, income, not income tax, all of the income generated in this country and still not afford what we have coming. WALKER: Well, to put it a different way, the $53 trillion is 90% of the estimated total net worth of every American, including Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and every billionaire. You are not going to tax your way out of this problem. You're not going to grow your way out of this problem. You are not going to do it by con training spending. You are going to have to do a combination of things and the biggest thing is going to be entitlement reform, Social Security and Medicare, healthcare being a much greater challenge. And we need to start soon because time's working against us. That $53 trillion number is going up $2 to $3 trillion a year by doing nothing. Presently, every houshold's share of this debt is a measly $440,000 dollars. I don't know where I will come up with mine, do you? Here is the interview: http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/4595/ Someone tell me how we can continue to bleed money like this and survive as a nation? Why is it our elected officials continue to drive this train as fast as it can toward this precipice?

Start up those printing presses. Even though this up coming meteor we keep wanting to add to the mountain of spending. It is like have 90% of your income going towards your credit card debt, then going out and buying a new car.

Gewcew, I said it back when they were shoving the "stimulis" package down our throats and I will say it now. There is no way any sane person can believe it is possible to SPEND their way out of financial problems!

So all of our social programs are breaking the bank. So what does our gov do? Add more social programs. My gosh their stupidity is scary. Why are the american people standing for this? They are making the situation worse not better.

Lilwonders, It is totally amazing to me! I guess this is the "change" the majority of Americans were waiting for. I gotta tell you, if this is change I'm all for going back to the same old same old!

I honestly do not know what to say. We the regular non political cannot do a thing about it, at least I know I can't. I do not understand why the politicians who are supposed to represent the American people are doing nothing about our situation. If this information is available to us then it is for damn sure available to our politicians and most certainly to the president..

The sad part of this is that this man sat in front of congress and stated these very facts and they still persist in more and more spending. They all need to be fired for incompetence!

We cannot, and that is the intent. I believe that 0bozo and company are doing everything they can to destroy our economy and our nation in order to institute full blown socialism... which as we all know will then turn into outright communism. That is the big plan of the liberals and has been for a very long time.

Would be nice if someone could make everyone in Washington that is drawing a government paycheck - and when I say everyone I include the President, VP, Senators, Congressmen, Supreme Court Judges - the lot - everyone make them take a 20% pay cut before anything is taken from the Joe the Plumber type workers and tax payers. That would be one big start to try and contain the deficit.

I agree totally! These people have continually voted themselves raises year after year! Man, would I ever like to dictate my own raise! These people will never find the solution because they will not admit that they are part of the problem!
