He was so committed to their love, I am afraid he would have remained single for a good long time. Maybe a bit later in life might have met someone, but would have never gotten over Ally.

yeah I agree with this. I think he might have moved onto relationships, but he never would've commited to anyone else

Well after watching the movie so many times I really think that Ally was his soul mate. I believe that if she had not come back he would have continued to drink his life away and finding temporary comfort with different woman throughout his life. There really would have been no substance to it because no matter how hard anyone tried his heart was completely stolen by Ally. What a great love story!
