Do You Like To Host Dinner Parties?

What do you serve at a dinner party? Do you like to have dinner parties? How many people have you invited . . . or what has been the biggest party you've ever hosted. Besides food what was on the menu for the evening? Perhaps you had a theme for your party. In any case, the question is what did you serve and was it a success?

I use to love it. Even when I was back home I really enjoyed a dinner party. Then when I came to Canada, my mother in law always made a big deal of not eating my food even when she was in my home for lunch or diner and with time I lost confidence in my own cooking abilities. For years I was embarrassed, scared of inviting my friends over because I felt my food was awful.
The some years back I finally got free from most of the insecurities she had passed to me and I started inviting friends again. And no, my food wasn't awful, and people enjoyed coming for my food and my parties. SOme actually told me they missed it during the time I was dealing with all her criticism.
Now that I'm back with my dinner parties I love it. I can have more people during the summer, because we can also use the backyard. I can have about 30 people more or less. I usually make a big bbq party in the summer.During the rest of the year 8-10 is about the limit because of space.
Sometimes I do make theme parties - used to do it more when the kids were younger - because they really like dit - and it was more just for us and one or two of our closest friends.
Last olympics we had an olympic games party all the way to the podium and the gold medals, it was fun :)
We even had a beach party last summer - at home hehe ( Me and my friend did plenty of decorations for that one )
Some of our friends are better for fun and games, when I think about a theme party I always count on them because I know they're as crazy as we are and would be ready for the silliest games an activities. Others are more serious and would not do as well in such party. So I always try to balance things.
Plus a nice quiet and calm dinner party can be great too.
I"m already dreaming about the parties we can make if we really end up buying my in laws part of the house. That would give us so much more space LOL

Wow! Someone who could entertain and provide delicious food for thirty people or more is just amazing. And then you're able to come up with themes and whatnot. And you have kids!!!! May you never listen to those critics ever again. Always believe in yourself, my friend. Looks like you have lots of talent and gifts to believe in. Hope you wind up with the part of the house you're in-laws are in. Here's to you!

I love having friends over. Actually I think I enjoy it more than going to a friend's house.
I like to play with foods, and experiment until things are just the way I want them. Then I get the kids or my special friends and we have fun with theme and decorations.
It makes it fun even before the party starts LOL

I love to host dinner parties. My birthday is always welcome for my friends. I gather my closest friends and family. Sometimes I even make theme parties, like when I turned 60. I asked all the ladies to come in their very best and accepted whatever the men wanted to wear as long as they said loud enough for everyone to hear how beautiful we were. At this age, you need all the positive feedback, even if it´s not absolutly the truth.
At those parties I have around 40 or 45 people. I first serve appetizers while the guests arrive. Then I usually put a lot of food at the table (buffet like) and everyone eats what he wants.
After dinner I declare myself drunk and let my daughters and friends serve the dessert and coffee. Usually most of the cleanup is also done by the guests
My parties start at about 8 PM and end at 2 or 3 AM. It seems everyone has fun. For my 60th birthday, I even danced Rock around the clock with an obliguing friend.
