Bisaya-Tagalog feud in youtube

A month ago, Anastacio J. Crus (I don't know if it is his real name) commented on one of the videos made by 15-year old students in Mindanao. The video is actually a school project, they were asked by their Filipino teacher to produce a ten minute trailer of El Filibusterismo. This video was considered the best in the school, and because of this, proud 15-year old students (directors of the trailer) uploaded their video in youtube. Personally, I admire them_ the video was well done considering that they were only given 2 weeks to work on it. It was an amateur video intended for a project_ but one person commented (this is the exact words):"BASURA. Isang bulok na produksyon. Hilaw na editing, direksyon, cinematography at pagganap. Mga bisayang cast ng fili? oh my god!" (in English: TRASH. Just a waste production. Blunt editing, direction, cinematography and acting. Bisaya cast in fili? on my god!) His comment not only hurt those 15-year old students who made the video but all the Bisaya (settling in both Mindanao and Visayas) who have read his comment. What does he mean with..."Bisaya cast in fili? oh my god!"? Is he trying to tell us that Filipinos using dialects other than Tagalog have no right to portray any characters made by our own National Hero? Does that mean that Ceasar Montano who played Rizal in the move Jose Rizal is not fit to the role? Caesor is proud to say that he is from Bohol... therefore, a Bisaya. How about you? How do you view his comment? You can check the exchange of comments in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4BuTIzQQ1M

The video was really great! I had goosebumps through the whole scene. That commenter was a jealous loser. I am Bisaya and I'm proud of it! That doesn't make me less of a person. I hope that Anastacio realized how unprofessional and irresponsible his comment was.

I don't think he ever realized it. He stand by his comments till the end. He even made mention of being a professional (braodcaster, commentator, photo and video editor). He even defended himself by saying that he is just giving a constructive criticism. My goodness! Was calling your work "Basura" a constructive criticism?

I have seen the first comment made by Anastacio Cruz to the uploaded video project of HIgh School students. I think it really was not a good comment. It did not sound as constructive at all, but humiliating and discriminating. For High School students to see those comments would be so hurting and degrading. It could affect them. If he was a teacher who made such kind of comment, he could be charged by those students. I find that Anastacio Cruz to be rude and arrogant.

Discriminating - that's the exact word I am trying to say about his comment on the video. Who do you think he was?

well i have seen the video and i think its really great! yes its great to think that it was made by high school students...so its not bad at all...in fact for me its quite impressive and they should be credited for their efforts... of course because tagalog is not their mother tongue some mistakes will really show especially on pronunciation...but so what? hehehe what is important is the result...anyway, they are still young and still have so much room for improvement... to mr. cruz i think he's being too harsh and insensitive...and yes discriminating...but i hope visayan speaking people will not take it against tagalog speaking people...for not all tagalog are like that man...i think he's a shame for tagalogs! and i think this is not healthy for our country...coz even if we speak of different dialects...still we are all Filipino and we should learn to respect others! well i am a tagalog myself...and living in visayan region... and i hope those kids will not take it too serious but instead take it as a challenge for them...to prove that mr. cruz is very wrong with his comments...

thanks jhelaichie and i agree with you... i think these kids do have a nice future on film directing...they are just beginners but still they can manage to do a nice video like that...and not all of their age can do that...and of course since they are beginners, there are some unavoidable mistakes that they made or honest mistakes...and for sure they can improve that... so i hope these kids can also read this discussion...for them to know that many Filipinos are proud of them... by the way, from where in Mindanao are you? my husband is from there also...

Don't mind him, he's just another Tagalog fanatic who doesn't believe that Visayans or other dialects are part of Filipino Language. that's more of an Comment coming from a foreigner, something he's trying to be more like westener who make very frank criticisms that either hurt or humiliate the person. He had the option to criticize it in a nice way..He's clearly just a looser in Disguise...

sadly, he's filipino adopting ways of the western way criticizing people and you know how they criticize each other..

the one who made that comment is a crap..!i am not a bisaya, i am a pure waray-waray but he has no right to do that considering that, that video was made by a certainly not professional 15-year old student..and it was not intended for any awards or something, they just felt that since it was the best film in their school, why not upload it to youtube so that many people will see it..he might be a good commentator on a movie but considering what he has done, i don't think he himself can make a movie like that..i sympathize that kid who did the efforts in uploading that video..and that man, he will surely have his karma in time..

ive seen the trailer and all i can say its good for a young high school student to work on that trailer, me myself cant do that. that anastacio will go to hell. those on el fili are my fellow iliganons. im proud of their work. creative and they put all their hard work for it considering for the little time they make this. its a school project so why would anastacio give such bad comments! there are lots of positive feedbacks on youtube.

That's nice to know that I have a fellow Iliganon mylotter. :-) You know what, I know those students personally_ they are very witty students actually. When I read the comments, it really made me so mad... as in "nakakapanggigigil!!!". I mean what does he think of himself? I don't even heard his name from any of the prestigious movies or even just in the television. He claims to be a broadcaster... hahaha... a broadcaster from nowhere.

This could be a case of typical cyber bullying. I think this person could be just another student who is taken by jealousy or someone who is just plain unhappy and wants to get some attention and wants to make others unhappy as well. The video trailer was very good considering that the high school students were given only two weeks to come up with it and to think that they were not professionals and a very 15 year olds is a quite a great achievement.

Actually, the one who made a comment claimed to be a professional. He stated in his comment that he is a broadcaster and a professional picture and video editor. Basically, whether he claimed to be a professional or not, I still think he is unprofessional with his comment... "Bisaya cast of fili?"

Hey kyss_smyle! That's really nice of you to go an extra mile to defend the poor 15-old students who made the said video. I think that the person who made a bad comment about the video is just jealous, because he can never be as good as those amateur students. The person's an A-hole.

i truly have seen it already. my God!!! they are truly good in the short trailer they did. i do make movies like this but i was so amazed. in that age, they really do ahve much mor to offer. i am so proud of those kids. though i also have seen the comments of that given person, and i should say i was hurt because i am a Filipino and a Bisaya. i live in mindanao as well and i have been to that place because i go to college in their place. but i dont really care what that person says. whats important is that they did make a very very very great job!!! and i am so proud of them... keep it up guys!!!! jhelai

I'm glad you shared the link. After seeing it, I personally admire whoever made the video. For a youngster like him... he is very much talented. And being a Bisaya myself... I am very proud of this production. Whoever made the comment should be ashame of himself. How dare he judge Bisayas. Even more... how dare he post that comment, not only hurting that student, but all of us who've read it. To this Anastacio J. Cruz... you're a loser!!! I won't be surprised if you can't even make that kind of production at the age of 15.
