A lot of people and critics say it was really scary, or the scariest movie ever. I love horrer movies, so I decided to see it. because of all of the reviews, I was in for a scare. I was dissapointed. I think this movie belongs in the comedy section, not the horrer. I dont find any parts of this movie scary. Maybee that's because I saw tons of scary movies, or maybe because I dont get scared that easily, i don't know. What do you think of the movie?

I remember watching, "The Exorcist" when I was twelve, and it scared the bejesus out of me. Later on in life, I wasn't frightened by it, but did love it as a horror movie. It's entertaining, and few horror movies shock anyone anymore. I haven't seen a good horror movie that's really frightened me in years; I just look for entertainment value now. If you're into reading, you should read the book. It's much better than the movie (but then again, the books always are). You know what really scared me, and still does (sort of)? Stephen King's "It." Both the book and the movie. Tim Curry as Pennywise is truly frightening. Moreso than his Dr. Frankenfurter get up in Rocky Horror.

I think it depends a lot on what actually scares you as to whether you find The Exorcist scary. If you are fan of modern gore then I can understand why you may have found it rather lame. But then for me I do find it scary because it is quite psychological rather than in your face horror. I would also say that you pick up on a very good point about having watched many scary movies that you don't easily scare. I think that is also key to why you didn't find it scary. Part of the trouble is that over the years the horror industry has seriously changed so when The Exorcist was made, the emphasis of the movie was on telling a story whilst building up suspense and tension. But nowdays the horror industry is less about suspense and more about delivering outrageous visual horror such as that promoted in the Saw series of movies.

I'm pretty sure the original excorsist was made a long time ago, which may be why you do not find it very scary. The graphics in movies have definitely improved alot in a short amount of time. I have never seen this movie. I have see the exsorsist of emily rose. I found that movie to be terrifying. But I am the type of person who does not like scary movies. I think they are very negative and I would rather watch something positive and happy.

I don't know that I agree with the claims that it was the scariest movie ever but if you consider that it was based on a real exorcism that took place in 1949, that adds a little more thrill to it. Granted, there are some scenes where Pazuzu is so obscene that it really does become comical (and the pea soup was pretty hilarious) but the overall story is pretty scary. This is from someone who hasn't seen a real scary movie in years. The last movie that truly left me even a little uneasy was probably Seven. I was impressed (recently) by Saw, The Sixth Sense, The Eye, and Stay Alive but I write horror. It takes a lot to scare me. And while the Exorcist didn't really scare me in the "scariest movie ever made" sort of way, I don't deny that it was scary.

You've obviously seen so many scary movies you've become numb. For me The Exorcist was definitely the scariest and I saw it for the first time back in '73. Wouldn't want to see it again. At the time there were a lot of stories, most of them spooky, surrounding the making of this particular movie but I feel certain it was a sales ploy. Worked.

I am with you, I was disappointed as well. I laughed more then I was scared. I do think we need to remember when the movie was filmed. It was probably much more frightening made then is now. It was also more of a psycological thriller I think.
