Has anyone had computer problems after downloading updates to Windows Vista? Our computer crashed (had to borrow a friends) after downloading Vista updates a couple of days ago. Someone at Dell Technical support suggested that we might not have enough memory on the computer--it has 2 Gb.-- for the Vista program. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I don't want to have this happen again. We are going to have to reinstall windows and everything else that was on the computer. Thanks for your help.

Did they not offer to walk you through rolling back or a repair of Vista? You should need to resort to formatting the entire harddisk, though in their eyes, it's the cheapest solution to have customers re-image the harddisk back to factory settings. It's not a memory issue, that technical support advisor probably ran out of script to read back to you... ^_^

I've used Windows for years and never been satisfied with the performance of any of the operating systems and I don't think that I will like Windows 7. I've burned through ten Windows based computers in less than five years. Windows is not a good operating system, plain and simple. There downloads are always messing up my computers. Have you tried downloading and installing Ubuntu? Ubuntu is a free operating system that rivals Windows in capacity and speed. Yesterday was my first day using the program. It's super fast and exceeds all my expectations for an operating system. Way better than Windows. And, it comes with a pre-installed version of Mozilla Firefox so you can get on the Internet right away after installation. You simply download the program and then burn to disc using the instructions provided and then insert the disc into your drive after you boot the computer. The program will usually boot right away and run from the disc so that you don't have to install anything or you could simply install then and there. You can download the Ubuntu operating system here at: http://linkbee.com/freeUbuntu Or go to: http://linkbee.com/Ubuntudisc and ask them to mail you a free copy of the Ubuntu operating system. This will save you over $100 or so from having to buy a new operating system. And, it might save you the cost of buying a new computer.

Thanks for the suggestions! I had not heard of Ubuntu before, but it sounds interesting, and I'll check into it.

Somehow i find this VERY difficult to believe, i have been a dedicated Windows user since Windows 98, and i have never heard of such a problem. I personally have 2GB of memory also, and currently running Windows Vista Home Premium, im considerd a computer wiz and in all the problems ive seen, i dont think what your saying is possible, because everyone else would have the same problem, my recommendation is to stop buying Dells they have a reputation of having their computers go bad, switch to Compaq/HP, or custom build one like i did.
