Do you think these special days like friends day, parents day, fathers day, mothers day are all yet another marketing strategy of some business giant? since when did you start hearing about these special days? was it just when you saw the special promotional offer displayed on the window of archies??? or on paper... i first heard of friends day when i was in class eight...i feel there is no need of this special day to get reminded of that special someone and to gift something special...what do you say?

I do notice that sometimes occasions are being over-rated and though not all, some would make it a point to outsell the idea; knowing that some people have a soft spot for their love ones and would splurge all out for them. But with that said, I am generally happy with some business services because the packages they provide are really bargain for money.

Today I got a mail from 123greeting asking me to wish and gift my grandparents becasue apparently it is grandparents day!!! This is the first time I am hearing something like grandparents day!!! Have you heard of it? I know only two special days from my childhood, childrens day and teachers day. It might not be there in your country.

Hi malpoa, I believe the whole idea is just a card manufacturing gimmick, have you seen the mark ups and profits on them. In Greece we don't celebrate occassions with cards at all, the big festival, Easter, is celebrated with food and candles, and the other big one, name days rather than birthdays, is celebrated by everyone telephoning the person whose name day it is. A much better system all round.

tht is a good system u got ther. yes i mean here these cards are too over priced n im surprised to see people buying it. it is better not to mention abt archies. i used to buy all the gifts frm there, bt recently i went to an international exhibition n bought this wall hanging in silver with blue colour enamel on it from an iranian shop. later in the same week i went to archies to buy something n saw this very same piece hanging there. out of curiosity, i checked its price n it was more than double than i bought it for!!! by the way wht is name's day? never heard of it. thx for writing in.
