I would prefer to steam a fish. If fry the fish or grill the fish, it is not a healthy way of cooking. I like steam the fish with some ginger , that's it. You will get the original taste of the fish, indeed it is the most fresh taste i ever get. I always try to avoid adding in any seasoning or sauce for the fish. O like original recipe. Please share your favorite dish too.

I like it very much but my son find it a bit hot (the ginger hot).. he still need to learn a lot! Ginger is very good for health. It is good for those who are suffering from arthritis! I believe different fish has to be cooked with different style to bring out the best taste in it, or so my father said. I eat anyway you cooked it as long as the smell of the fish is no longer there. What I like the most is steamed fish, with lemon grass and ginger, add with a little bit of lemon juice. Enough said to make my mouth waters... hehe.

I can't eat 'sambal' fish because I cannot eat spicy food, but I agree about 'ikan bakar'. I always dip in/eat with lime mixed with salt and belacan. I can eat more than one plate of rice with just a grilled/smoked fish. It's a pity my they don't allow tenants to barbeque from their balcony in my house building. That's not a problem though beca

Hi Iriene, I'm lucky enough to live in a fishing village and often receive a gift of fish from the local fishermen, lobster being my absolute favourite. Sometimes we take our own fish into the local taverna and ask them to cook it for us, they grill it and serve it with an olive oil and lemon dressing and charge a nominal amount for cooking it. If I'm cooking it at home I usually oven bake the fish wrapped in tin foil. I like to put a few slices of orange inside the fish and some juice from the fresh orange over the top, along with a little olive oil and some fresh herbs. I also adore fish soup which Greek style is with potatoes, carrots and celery and lots of lemon. If this is served in traditional style the fish is served on a separate plate to the soup it has been cooked in.

Dear thea09, Congrats, your star ranking is at 10...keep it up! The way you describe the freshness of the fish and the delicious lobster make me feel like want to take the next available flight to Greece, and take the taxi / cab up the mountain and down the valley to your wonderful fishing village.... Oh yes, I must try the Greece style that you mentioned, it is so healthy with potatoes, carrots and celery! Thanks and I truly enjoyed your post...just loving it!

Hi Iriene, I'm not loving the new avatar myself so must try and find another one, but the blue is back where it belongs, I really didn't like the red one. I'm glad you enjoyed my posting. When I told you about the fish I should have asked, have you ever seen on a menu 'fish soup without the fish'? It used to confuse me why anyone would make that but I love it now, less chance of bones but all the flavours.

Hi Iriene. While it is not my favorite cuisine, I do enjoy mild-tasting fish: tuna in casseroles and sandwiches, baked white-fish or cod, and fried lake fish. I like many kinds of food: chicken and turkey, fruit or vegetable salads, spaghetti and lasagna to name a few. Karen

Hello my friend :) We enjoy some similar foods, I see. Like you, I only roast a whole turkey for special holidays, but in the grocery stores, they always have some sliced and packaged for sandwich making. Cod here in the US is very reasonably priced...a blessing. And you're right...fruits and vegetables are among some of the healthiest foods we should eat every day! Blessings for you day... Karen

Dear Karen... I am so delighted to have you here sharing your favourite cuisine! My husband do not eat much fish too, but he do eat steamed / deep fried garoupa and cod fish! In Malaysia, Cod Fish is very costly! Chicken is also one of the common dish in Malaysia...we seldom have turkey but we do enjoyed it during Christmas Day. Occasionally, the buffet in the hotels do have turkey ham with sandwiches! Vegetables and fruits is very important for our health, should be included in our daily diet. Thank you so much and happy myLotting!

I used to like fried fish when we were young. as we live in a rural area, really fresh fish was difficult to come by. so when my mother buy those fish we will just fry them in oil and them eat it. In later years, when I started working in the city,I started to appreciate other type if fish preparations. Steamed fish with salted vegetables was a great Teochew dish.Steamed fish with Thia sauce is very mouth watering even though it is spicy. Roasted fish, baked fish and raw fish became my favourite during the lats ten years or so.

Hi, Glad that you too like to eat deep fried fish when you are young. Me too I love fish deep fried in oil and served with a little soy sauce. Simple, but nice. The flesh stays tender and sweet yet the outer part is crispy. I've always loved it when my mom prepared it, btw, I just had it a minute ago for dinner...delicious! Fish should be caught in a proper way. Say 'NO' to dynamite fishing. All the best & happy myLotting!

Hilsa...a fish to die for - Fish...an integral part of Bengali food and life.
fish is the staple of us Bengalis…it is said that no matter where a Bengali goes, he has to find out his fish curry and rice LOL…the rivers of bengal are teeming with fish and we have fish almost everyday but our style of cooking is distinctly Indian i.e we eat fish curry and not much of grilled or steamed type. Fish curry can be cooked in various ways, including steaming, but it has to have its own share of spices, including mustard paste which brings water to the eyes, due to its pungency. We do enjoy fried fish sometimes, specially with pulses and steamed rice. Also, fresh water fish is more enjoyed than sea fish.

I love most kinds of seafood. Even when we go out for Chinese food Iat the buffet I pick mostly the dishes that have seafood in them. We are heading to England in 3 weeks where my husband has a home. We land early in the morning and the home is 40 miles from the airport. Our lunch that day will be fish, chips and mushy peas. I love the fish - it is cod dipped in batter and deep fried. I could eat it 7 days a week.

Dear us2owls, It is so nice to hear that you are going to England soon. The way you describe the fish, chips & mushy peas ~ cod dipped in batter and deep fried...is making me H U N G R Y ... In Malaysia they normally used dory fish for 'Fish & Chips' It will be wonderful if they can use cod fish. Cod fish in very expensive in Malaysia. We normally order 2 pcs of cod fish either steam or fried, even that it can cost us RM60.(Ringgit Malaysia) Have a wonderful trip and do keep in touch!

If it is fish, I usually prefer deep-fried fish. However I don't like to cook this at home - messy and oily. So it's either steamed or baked fish at home. My favorite dish is beef, especially ribeye steak - baked, grilled or panfried.

Hi, I do not fancy fish due to its bones. I am not that good in handling fish bones, it had stuck at my throat before...so I tend to avoid it. However, I love to eat those fish fillet without bones fried 'sweet sour' style. Delivious. I also like to eat those sold at Western Restaurant like Fish & Chips! Thanks and regards,

Hi James, I heard my mum said if tiny fish bone stuck at the troat while eating, one should quickly swallow a spoon of rice, thus it helps to bring the fish bone down to the stomach. I too like to eat 'sweet & sour' fish, fish & chips just like you...lol Actually next time you can order steam cod fish, it has less fine bones..those big bones can be seen and avoided. All the best and thanks :)

I love tandoor fish, hmm grilled is closer to that. Deep fired naaah, too much oily. Basically most fish are oily by nature, so adding more oil to it makes it unhealthy. Fish n chips is one of my fav. dish, I know I know, those are deep fried, but I have that dish rarely. My most favourite recipe is tandoor pomfret or surmai. I also like prawns pulao (recipe of rice) too.

Hi, Oh yes, deep fried are not so healthy way of cooking such a wonderful healthy fish...but once in awhile is okay! Have you tried steam fish? Tandoor fish should be very delicious because I have tried tandoor chicken. It is not oily and delicious too. Good suggestion, perhaps I will order tandoor fish next time when I see it! Thank you, hope to see you around in my other topic of discussion!

I used to bring him to Fish & Co and Manhattan Fish Market, he loves to eat 'fish chouder' (a kind of thick soup). Sometimes I ordered for him some garlic bread to dip onto the fish chauder..it's 'heavenly tasty'! Peace or Fish? Which one do you like? Of course, both of them. We should eat fish peacefully. With a peace in our hearts, we should eat fish. Anyway, I like fish in soup. Try to search Tinola in the internet. It is a delicious satisfying delicacy. I also like it grilled or fried. As long as it is a good fish meat, any cook will do. Fish should be caught in a proper way. Say no to dynamite fishing. Fish should be taken care of properly for our future.
