Maybe i am the only one who will find this interesting, but ithought i would share it and see what others think.
I work for a grocery store chain called Hannaford Brothers, which is primarily located in the north east United States. My company just opened a new store in my state that is the first ever grocery store in the united states to earn a LEED Platinum certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
here is a link to read an article about all the things they have done to cut down on the "carbon footprint" this store would create

They have used everything from Solar panels for lighting, to renewable energy resources to heat, cool and power the store. The store was also built on a site that was formerly a highschool. In building the store, they were able to use over 96% of the former schools building materials and 99% of the of the contents of the store.
I guess i am just kind of proud that the company i am working for is taking steps to help better the environment by doing this. Have you heard of other businesses doing this? do you think this will become a trend in the future?

Unfortunatley i am not working in this particular store...but i do love my job with this company none the less. I have been with them for about nine years now. I know that now that they have accomplished this, in the future when building other new stores or remodeling older ones my company will ocntinue to use many of these practices in construction. This might not make all the other stores as environmentally friendly, but any little bit is a help!
