There is going to be an Indian food festival out here soon, and I'm wondering if I would be able to expect a lot of good vegetarian food there? I would love to go if it's a good possibility that I will be able to try a lot of the food. Once I went to a Japanese tofu festival and I really enjoyed that one. Not all the food was vegetarian, but there were so many vegetarian options I got to try many foods I had never had before. So I'd like to have another good food festival experience. And if you have advice on good dishes to try, please share!

I've never been to an Indian food festival but have been to India and know a fair amount about Indian food. As (most) a lot of Eastern food is based on a Hindu/Buddhist diet, there is always a wide range of veggie food about. You would find that although they ay cater for meat eaters, they largely establish a wide range of veggie friendly food. I think you would find that there would be a large range of veggie food to try and sample. A lovely dish is daal fry, it's typically Indian in that it's not very spicy and is cooked with ghee, giving it a lovely sweet taste. Just sample as much as you can, the lentils (daal) are a delicacy and a veggie staple so I'd recommend keeping an eye out for those. Have a great time, be open minded as well!

Thanks so much for the advice! I got to try something with daal in it before, and it was so delicious I didn't even realize those are lentils. The type of lentils we make at home are disgusting. I'm not sure if I'm going to the Indian food festival now since both of my ankles are sprained, but if I don't end up going I know someone who is going so I can make them bring me back some food.

I found out there is an Indian food store about 10 miles from me, so I'm going to have to go check that out. I love trying new foods. :)

hi pigglies, i am an indian and i am a vegetarian. i love to cook a variety of food and on holidays or any weekends i try to make something special for everyone. my family is a food loving family. they are big food lovers and eaters. all time fav is boiled rice or cumin fried rice with lentil , the yellow one with garlic fried in clarified butter and a spoon full of that in it too. that is all time fav. then mixed veg, mushrooms, eggplant veg which is prepared by coating the veg with oil putting it on the burner, making the layer on it burn, and then putting the whole thing in water and cleaning it and then with all the spices and onion , garlic, ginger, tomato and all that stuff making the dish. that is liked by most of the people in india. kidney beans , the red ones and chikpeas is one more thing which is loved by majority and eaten with rice.rice is a staple food here so most of the people enjoy eating things with rice. then rice pudding is also one of the very famous and most loved dish.
