So, after this economic crisis, we all learn to save our energy, and the money on our pocket in every aspect. Have you ever thought about using solar - powered street light, or wind - powered street light? It can be the our future to save even more money from the electricity we consume. Would you support the use of solar - powered lighting versus the electricity - consumable lighting?

I totally think solar powered street light would be a great idea, granted it would take sme money in the first place to convert them all.
I was reading an article the other day in businessweek about an inventor in germany who cme up with a new street lamp idea, and implimented it in one town and is trying to get the idea to spread. It is called "Dial For Light". these street lights are set on a timer and are only on for a short period of tie in the early evening, when foot traffic is still steady, then they turn off for the night. But if you are walking down the street there, or say you live in the area and are coming home late and would like the street lamps on for your safty, all of the lamp posts have telephone numbers attatched to them, and the numbers are in reflective type on the poles. When you call the number, the street light will automaticly turn on for a time period of ten or 15 minutes. I thought this was quite a clver idea, and could be quite useful in lesser traveled areas where light woudln't really have to be on all night. It would be a huge power saver, and in todays society, where cell phones are so prevelant, it would be simple, easy way for a town to save some cash on power bills.

I would definitely support something like that! That's really a swell idea to make the street lights self sustaining without gobbling up even more electricity. I wish they would look into doing something like that, it makes a lot of sense. Can you imagine the amount of electricity that would be saved just even in a day if they implemented such a plan?! It would probably be astronomical to say the least. I mean, look at how many street lights there are on the freeway, and in a normal city environment.

Yes...but I have yet to see solar do any great things in the line of lighting....however I do like the wind turbine idea and since it's basically free and totally green if they could produce more electricity from wind I would totally stand up for it!

I would totaly support either solar or wind powered street lights. Both would save on energy costs and put the money to more useful things and it will help the fight against global warming.
