Do lots of teachers have bad habits behind?

Is it true? I have known couple people who are teachers and they do have some bad habits behind like smoking, drinking a lot, swearing like nobody business etc... I mean to me teachers are always like a model for students, they have good education, good behavior, decent dressed up all the time etc. So my question is: 1. Do you think it is okay as long as they don't show it when they are roling teachers? 2. Should all teachers not have any of those habits? What do you think?

Teachers are only human just like the rest of us, and i feel that it is nobody's business what they do on their own time. Just as long as they are not breaking the law. and they are conducting them selves in a proper manner when they are at work.

I agree with you, if they hide it well, I think it is fine.

It would not even bother me to see a teacher out at the local bar drinking and smoking, and having a good time just like the rest of us, i do not believe that they have to hide it.....Just not do it while they are at work.

Teachers are like nurses. You may expect them to be perfect but this is the real world. They are all shapes and sizes and have all kinds of habits. My sister is a nurse and I am about to graduate to become a teacher. we both have been known to drink and cuss like sailors. I have never liked to wear anything other than jeans and t-shirts, but for work you will never know that about me. At work we are the profesionals we went to school to be. There is no cussing, drinking or smoking at work (among other things.) But if I want to not do my hair and look like a bum on my days off then I should probably not leave the house. I think that it is interesting that we expect teacher to lead perfect lives when we know in reality they are just people. Should teachers not have bad habbits? Not anymore than nurses or doctors, but we do not look down on them if they smoke, instead we still trust them with our lives. Why should teachers be any different.

I think teacher should be someone respectable not doing these bad things and then teach generations !! but if we look deep as long as they doing these things out , I guess its ok coz they have their own lives in the other side that would their right ,in my university there was an email has been send to all student by someone ,it was photos about all foreigners teachers are in dancing party and having drinks all over the place , also playing around with dancers ladies OMG all student hate them and said bad things about them we were totally shocked but what to do !! they behave in good way during their lectures time ,but outside university every one got his own live , but I wouldn't like my teacher if he appeared in this way !!

I was shocked when I was one of the teachers smoke in the public... then I realized they are humans too, they have bad habits as well, can't force them to quit it, what they should do it hide it as much as they could. I think.

Teachers are also humans. They are not noble beings. Its just that we have been taught to respect our teachers and we expect them to be good people. Young childrens could learn bad habbits from their teachers so I think teachers who teach in schools should be careful with their behaviour and actions.

I think most of the teachers are not realy a good role model for our kids. There are even teachers who says a lot of bad words to the students. There are those who don't care if their students are learning or not. So I think, we parents should be careful in choosing the right school for our kids. SO that they will get a quality education as well as quality teachers.

Teachers are humans and they have their needs. I have nothing against teachers who want to smoke or drink but they've to do it out of school, not during school hours. I know of a colleague of mine who is addicted to smoking but since the rule disallows anyone from doing it, he smokes in the toilet - out of sight but could still be smelled miles away. However, teachers need to have certain attitudes to show professionalism. For instance: neatly dressed, punctual, firm, keep his word - to name just a few. These attitudes measure if teachers are really worth being role models. There's no point having teachers who don't smoke, and teachers who speak so gently but they enter class looking like they've just got up from bed and are often late to class. If I were a kid, I wouldn't mind if my teacher smokes (because so many people do that, too) but I do mind if my teacher were sloppy, not punctual and talks rubbish in class.

Teachers are human beings too and they have their own share of problems and stress in their personal lives…so to me its OK as long as they are keeping it personal and not letting it affect their professional life. Cussing and abusing is more to do with upbringing and surroundings rather than education. Teachers are expected to maintain a high level of moral rectitude and I do think most of them do…apart from the influence on children, their jobs too would be at stake if they are found misbehaving in any way in the school.

That's right, it would be ridiculous if they show it at work like smoking at the back door...

They're humans still, and they can't just erase all of their bad habits after several years doing so. I think it's okay as long as they don't motivate or force their students to follow their lead on these habits. Like example, if a teacher is a hard-drinker, he shouldn't be proudly telling his students that it's cool to be drunk. He could be as human as he should get but when he steps in the school or class, he should remember that these kids should see him as how they should be, respected, and as a role model. I am a teacher and I have no super-human strength. I could commit mistakes and have bad habits like the next person does, but it doesn't mean the kids should know about it. I think these weaknesses makes us human, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't earn the respect otherwise. Just put things in its rightful places.

Being human, just like everybody else, teachers are not perfect and more than likely have some bad habits. The idea is how they conduct themselves within the community as they are in a responsible position. Teaching is one of those profession that a more than a job. A fine teacher is born as such I think and although imperfect like the rest of us they must uphold a certain standing particularly with their students.

On my part, nobody is perfect. We have different bad attitudes and habits. But, in the case of the teachers since they are a good example of their students they must be careful or responsible of their bad attitudes. I think they (teachers) must have to hide what questionable acts they would do if they would do it intentionally because how could they practice well their rights and power to their students if they can't be seen on themselves...It would just be useless...Thanks

Yes, I think so. Teachers are also human, they cant be perfect, but lots of them do not want to reveal their bad habits to their students, they would hide them. I think it's okey for teachers to have bad habits, as long as those habits was not shown in front of their students. Good day!

Yes it's true . Many teachers smoke and drink a lot in their spare time. Of course they won't encourage these bad habits in the class. Well for being a teacher such bad habits are not considered at all , i think. They enroll teachers not checking whether they have these bad habits while they only focus on their teaching performance . i don't like these bad habits but it seems impossible for all teachers to quit these bad habits.

If anything, teachers are human and have vices just like anybody else does. We would hope for our teachers to be a shining example, but that isn't always the case. I do think that within their class time, they should refrain from their bad habits during class. While it would probably be good for them not to have any bad habits at all, I would think it isn't reasonable to expect them to be anything else than whom they really are. Not sure, but I think every person on this planet has some bad habit in one form or another lol.

I think teachers are role models for the youth of today. However, they are also human. If they have a drink or two at home, smoke or whatever as long as they are discreet about and don't discuss it in the classroom I think that it is okay. It would be wonderful to think that they had no bad habits, but as long as they are good teachers and their students learn from them that is what is really important.

Yea, I always thought teachers are like role models, they teach the best to the students so it is hard to imagine they have some weird habits behind but you are right, they are still humans.

As I know, many teacher do have bad habits behind. But I think it's no big deal!"Nobody is perfect!"Everyone may has one or two bad habits, just like lazy, complaining, smoking and etc. If you are a teacher, you should avoid to show it before your student.Beacuse you should set an example to student. If you don't care this, you always show your bad habits before your student, they will learn to get this or even go wrong!

I believe teachers are role models and should behave accordingly. When I was growing up the teachers in grammar and intermediate were dressed well, with good behavior and quite professional. Once I got to High School I remember I had an english teacher who I believe was a drunk. Acted crazy at times, very dramatic and on those really bad days he would wear sunglasses in the classroom. If a person is taking up being a teacher as a career they should walk the walk and talk the talk. Unfortunately there are not to many that can do that these days.
