Has anyone considered or done this as a babies name? I'm talking about using like the mother's or grandmother's maiden name for a baby? I know country singer Deirks Bentley has his mom's maiden name for his first name. My newest nephew,my second great neghew, was born last week and his first name is Onan. Onan happens to be one of his grandmother's maiden name! He's mom's mom. I think it is cool and different! Would you ever consider using a maiden name for your child?

hi blue .. in our custom, we do not have "family name", we only carry our fathers name a bit - so it will be Sanjana d/o X - "d/o stands for daughter of" - my child will be y s/o z - "s/o stands for son of" and z is my husbands name ... But the common practice is to have - our fathers or grandfathers first name (mostly of husbands side) for the sons, and our mothers or grandmothers first name (mostly of husbands side) for the daughters. The joke is, when we have function and we call Mr M - almost in every family there will be one Mr M --- We are currently changing this practice, as the old traditional names sounds not suitable for this modern time (all the names which sounds like Blacky, Nosey, Birdy) i have seen parents comming up with new unique names, combination of both parents first names cheers

I named my daughter with 2 middle names. They are both family names. We could not agree on one so she got 2.

I use my mother's maiden name as my last name, and my husband and I always siad that if we ever had kids, that they would have my last name, so perhaps we could use his last name as a first name, or as a middle name. My cousin just had a baby, and she used her grandmother's maiden name for the little girl, and it's a really nice name. A friend of mine's sister just had a baby, and the boy has her and her sister's maiden name, which coinsedently happens to be my husband's first name, but he's a III, so his father and grandfather before him had the same first middle and last name as he did.

I have been finding out there are people who have their mom's maiden names as their middle names. I even know a woman who changed her middle name to her maiden name when she got married. I know they want to have a girl next time and if they do it will be interesting to see what name they'd pick! LOL

Give a good name for a baby and hoping a goodness for a baby. I think that someone's name is a pray and hope.

It's a really neat idea to carry on all of the family names, but it wouldn't have been a possibility for our family. My maiden name was Lynch and that just wouldn't be a cool first name, nor would Hankey, my mother's maiden name. And we didn't have to worry about my mother-in-law's maiden name because it is the last name that we carry.
