How do you deal with your old clothes?

For those old old clothes that you won't even look at it and wear it, they are just there in your closet. Do you donate it or sell it or what? I found I have a bunch of old clothes like that that I won't wear it, I think I will probably give it to my little sister and see if she is interested; if not, I might donate it or something, I doubt regular clothes can be worth too much money. What about you?

It depends...if they are old and ratty I just cut them up and use them as cleaning rags...saves me money and it is recycling. I have always meant for the better ones to be bagged up and take them to the thrift store and since I check them out every pay day I might start doing that.

oh well, i sell it to eBay lol... and i already earned a lot from it instead of occupying space in my closet... besides, i dont know any institution where i can give out some of my clothes.. actually, i still have more of my old clothes here and i still need to dispose them.

I usually donate them to a thrift shop if no one wants them.

It's a used clothing shop. Some you can earn money from when your clothes sell and others just take donations.

i also got lots of old old clothes in my closet and in my mini draw box. i put it there for some reasons that maybe soon i will need it again. while some of my old clothes i already gave to my nephews and nieces. while some of it, me and my girlfriends have decided to sell it to friends. and the money we could have, we will use it for our business(still finding what business would it be). while some i donate it to those places and people who have gone through calamities and they have nothing to wear. its always so nice to have helped those in need. jhelai

I like designing and crafts, so sometimes I try to make the clothes into something else. But the rest goes to charity.

I like to do that too! I feel like I have too many of the "same style" though these days and I wish I had something new to work with!

Yeah, this sound a bit odd, but one of my favorite shirts is made mainly of one of my old skirts. The downside of this, is that you have to sow most of the time. I HATE sowing!

I donate mine to charity, usually Salvation Army because there is a drop off center near me. Big Brothers/Big Sisters will come and pick up your charitable donations if you can't bring them someplace. Go to their website and you can get the instructions for arranging a pick-up. They will take most anything, too - furniture, games, toys, clothes, etc. If you own any "good" designer clothing/shoes/accessories, you can re-sell that to a consignment shop, which I've also done. Unfortunately that only works with the really expensive stuff you usually don't plan on selling!! It's worked for me in a couple of really tight situations when I needed extra cash.

They pay you for the clothes?

I've only been paid for the really good stuff, like I said. I had a Coach bag from a few seasons ago that I made a few hundred dollars on, and I sold a pair of Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses for another hundred or so. A few years ago I had a Burberry trench coat that I was able to make some money off of. I just looked up consignment shops in my area, called the stores to see what the policies were, and once I found someone that would buy back my old designer stuff, I was golden. They turn around and sell what you sold to them to the general public, but the people that buy it are paying way less than retail because the items are used.

hi mermaidivy!^^ before i used to sell my old clothes. i would hang them in our terrace so that people passing by can see them and maybe buy them. i would have wanted it to continue but i can't look after it everyday because i have work. and there's no one in our house interested enough to look after it. so i had to stop it. now i just give away my old clothes to my relatives who want them. i want to give them to charity but i don't have any access to them. i prefer nearby charities because its hard to carry too many clothes.^^

i have tons of old that as well. i would definitely donate them, if only those donation centres or charities were near my place. unfortunately it's too far from my place and to lug a bag full of old clothes in a taxi/cab and all, that would be too much of a hassle for me. if possible, i try to give them away though that happens only seldom due to our circumstances. thus, i just throw them away even though it breaks my heart. cos sometimes even though my clothes are years old, they still look ok. no holes or whatever.

I tend to sort things out - clothing i dont wear, that doesnt fit and store it in my basement for 6 months. A year for summer clothing. If i dont go down for the clothing after that long - i either keep it for my garage sale or i take it into the city to the salvation army. Some i remake into things like quilts or other neat little sewing projects.

Hi mermaid...I donate my old clothes if they're good enough to be worn again. If not, they go in the garbage. After all if they're stained or ripped I wouldn't want someone else to wear them. However if they're still nice and I just don't wear them anymore I'll gladly donate them to a goodwill store. Sometimes I'm lucky that an organization has drives where they pick up bags that you leave on your porch so you don't have to go anywhere - they come to you!

I always give my(outer)clothes to the local charity shops. They can make good money for their good causes. I always feel better donating for free & letting the charities benefit rather than trying to sell for a few pounds. Underwear goes straight in the bin! X

Oh yea... I don't think I would donate any underwears...

Even though I spend £££s on underwear, I would never think of passing it on - it just doesn't seem right. x

I donate my old clothes to someone who are in needs like typhoon/fire victims. You know it is better to give than to receive. :-)

I hold onto the ones with emotional ties the rest go to battered women's shelters! They need them much more than I need things lying around being taken for granted!

I donate ours to the Diabetes Society (or maybe it's foundation). I actually donate to them mostly because it's the easiest - they have bins at the grocery store so it's convenient. I just swing into the parking lot and dump my bag of clothes and/or household items in the bins and it's done.

Sometimes I will take them to Goodwill and sometimes I will have a yard sale first and see what I can sell. What I have left I will then take to Goodwill after having maybe three yard sale in the summer.

I've either gave the items to charity or worn them till they were only good as wash rags. I know a lot of my stuff went to goodwill before I moved.

Generally, I give it to my servants. Sometimes I donate it to some orphan. Yes, I agree with you but I don't give it to my sister, it has been our habit to wear own cloths. Yes, we exchange sometimes but when it is old we just donate it or give to the servants.

I tend to wear my clothes until they fall apart and then I use them as cleaning rags around the home! I have lost some weight over the last few years, so I have just gone through everything that is too big and I am going to donate them to a local charity who run a second hand clothing store!
