Do you go out of your way to sit with the old people in the family?

I have an old mother and aunt living close by. I am very sentimental about them. I know they are both lonely and alone, so every evening I make it a point to go to them and sit with them for one hour after work, talk to them, listen to their woes, tell them the news of the world (they cant read clearly anymore)and do any odd jobs they would want me to do. I remember how they would sit with me when I was a child and guide me all the way. Now they need me and my help, so I will always be there for them. Even in the middle of the night, if they are feeling unwell, they will call me up and I am there for them. How many of us are there for the oldies in our family?? How many of you have put your parents in old age homes and washed your hands off them.??

That was nice to hear.Since they helped you when you are young you have the responsibility to help them and care for them.even if they are not your blood relation. We are living in a world where people don't like old parents and dump them in old age homes.Personally I am against such practices.I am living with my parents and I won't allow them to suffer in home like orphans. In fact, they can be of good help to my kids than us in teaching morals and giving company. They have all the time now to share their experience. To add,the love and affection they show towards my kids is what they have missed towards me when I was a kid. Then they had to be strict and now they are full of love.Cheers!

Hi sr, the old people here are my mother and my dads sister, so both are related to me completely. Yes, having old people in the house is like having the root of a tree, firm and supportive to its offsprings. They are there for us in times of happiness and sadness, giving us advise when needed and off course, looking after thier grandchildren and teaching them the same values they taught us, to be a good person. Cheers to you for the love you show your parents and God Bless. Thanks.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.I thought they were somebody other than your relatives. If they are your own mother and aunt, why do they live separately? Can't they come and stay with you so that they will not feel lonely and they will be safe for your house when you leave for work.Well, you have a nice heart to spare some of your time with them. How did they manage to spend the rest of their time?

You have a very large heart. Now most of the people avoid their old relatives even old parents. They forgot their past when they were kids.Parents made them to face the life.Humans are basically ungrateful.

Thanks bhanu, I believe people in the world get what they give their loved ones. When the parents keep their parents in old age homes, the little kids learn and do the same to them when they grow up. They are the backbone of our house and we have to look after them. Unfortunately I dont have a brother and all sisters are married, so they have to live alone. But they are not alone. I am always there for them. Thanks.

I've always been the very reliable person in my family and I do like to talk to my older relatives. I like to hear their stories, and I like to steal recipes.

Good girl. I can see a very caring heart in you and that is what counts when we meet our Creator. Stealing recipes is of course your birth right. Who wouldnt take advantage of all the experience they have had in cooking yummy dishes. Adios and all the best.
