Though this never happen to me yet but what if when one day you're about to pay your groceries in front of the cashier, you notice that you left behind your money? I understand it would be an embarrassing moment beside the fact that you also would have been scolded by the cashier since those grocery items you would have just purchased being punched already in cashier's cash register machine would not just be easily returned.. What might the best solution on that situation...can we share yours?

Hello Martin, This would really an embarrassing moment. And really difficult situation too, since it is punched already. But what to do? i will ask forgiveness first to the cashier and would ask the management to talk with me.Becoz,i usually do my grocery in last hour so it's closing time already and i don't have time to go home and be back to the supermarket again. Then,i will pawn my watch (i guess it's worth it)so i can have my groceries and promised to take back my watch tomorrow and pay the said amount of my groceries. If the management won't accept my deal, then,it's fine, but i would say sorry about it,it's not intentional, and no one wants to be in that kind of situation.

Yes an embarrassing moment and a big problem too. You're right that your idea would be one of the ideas that could be considerable..we must put it in our minds whenever we are at the groceries or department stores we would have to see it first if we have with us our money of wallet to avoid embarrassing moments...thanks again my friend..

Yes that might be a good idea..if you could have someone to be called for reinforcements I think you have to wait that someone and you may not take all the items you bought to the shelves...thanks for responding..

I think if you are familiar with that grocery and the shop owner, and the shop owner is also very familiar with you, then it is OK to give back the money after you get home to catch some money. If not, maybe you could borrow from the people you know or come back later to take what you buy.

This would be one of the most embarassing things to ever happen to me. I've personally never had it happen, but I've seen people who have had it happen (namely my mother). It was at the grocery store and luckily it is only a block away from our house. The cashier was able to put a hold on the ticket until she could return with her money. Other than that, I think I would absolutely die of embarassment.

Yes really embarrassing moment. But that's an unavoidable because sometimes forgetfulness strike to us. A lesson for that is, we must always see to it that we must look first our wallet before going to our favorite department stores and groceries...thanks for responding..

Oh noo, that's something that I wouldn't want to happen to me. LOL. I always make sure I have my wallet with me when I go out of the house or when I go the grocery store. But if ever that happens to me (which I really hope not).. well, I'll just have to be honest to the cashier that I have left my wallet at home or someplace. I mean, it's not like I wanted it to happen, right? I would apologize profusely, of course, hoping the cashier would understand. LOL. Then I'll mkae my exit, nvowing never to return to that grocery store again. LOL.

I think the best thing to do would to just be honest with the cashier. Because there is really nothing you can do at this point. If you were to say I'll be right back, I think that would piss the cashier off even more, since you'll either hold up the line or have the cashier just expecting you to return. Not to mention, the cashier might even forget to void the purchase and be in trouble later.

Yes that would be considerable, just be honest and sincere in telling the truth to the cashier...thanks for the reply'...

Oh gosh, that would be hideously embarrassing! I guess if you can somehow get money soon, you will let the cashier know and see if you can leave your groceries there first. If you have to make a journey before you can get some money (assuming there is no one in the vicinity which you can call for help), then you just have to apologize with a tomato face and put back the groceries (and then sneak out by the side omg lolz).

once more, my message went bye bye, dont know why. It happened to me once and it was embarrassing yes. I had left my billfold on my dresser top,.the checker was really sweet, she put my sacks aside for me, and I went back to my apartment , got my billfold and came back. in later years I would have just used my bank of america debit card. this is a good suggestion for anyone who might accidentally leave their billfold at home. use your debit card, providing you had money in your account of course, saves time and extra steps.

Yes I got your point...besides we should always look first on our bags if we have on us our wallet or credit or debit cards before we go to our favorite groceries and department stores...thanks for responding..

This kind of happened to me in a way. I had left my debit card in my car in walmarts parking lot. So you can imagine how far you have to walk to get to your car. Well I got what I needed and was checking out when I realized what I did. So I told the lady I will run out to the car and get it. Luckily no one was waiting behind me at that register so when I got back I paid for it with no problem.

That will not happen to me.Because we are living in a town where our house is in the center of the town. And we buy groceries or anything in a particular shop and we are regular customers. So,even if we are left without the money,we can get it within five minutes as our house is near. While the packing is done,I can reach with the money.Or the shop keeper too will allow me to take the groceries and return the money later.Cheers!

I think I have similar experience before but I realize before the items get scanned because I usually take out the wallet when I am in the line. If I find out I really forget the wallet when the items are scanned, I would prabably just say the truth that I forget the wallet at home, I don't have any money to pay... Yes, it is embarrased but there is nothing I could there...

I haven't experienced such, thoug ofcourse like any oters would feel I would be very much embarrased. But I have to face the fact that I don't have any money with me to pay for the items,so maybe the only option I have is to apologize to the cashier or if possible talk to the manager and ask if I could put the items on hold and wait for me until I return just to get my money.I mean hey at least I didn't waste the effort that the cashier gave me..hehe

If in any case your debit card is with you you can easily solve your problem. If not then there is another way outt. You can transfer funds on the net it hardly takes time, transfer the required amount to the account of your office or cashier and ask him to make the payment. If you are not well versed on the net than take a loan from anybody in your organisation and repay them later. Someone or the other will definately help you.

Yes that maybe another solution, if only your cash left behind but how about if the wallet itself left, no debit or credit card left with you...well if you have friends with you, you can borrow maybe...thanks for responding...

It never happened to me. But twice in my recent job I'm a cashier. It happened twice in my customer. It is alright to have pending transaction if you are long time customer and member that they know. They will hold the transaction for you. Or else the supervisor can do the canceling of the transaction for you, that's what we call technology.

I have no experience like that, because before going to the grocery i already know how much money i have, but if i am in that situation that the groceries i bought was already punched and can not be returned, i will asked the grocery manager of other authority person to inform that i have no cash to pay so that they can do something in the inventory as the cashier can not do something so that it can be end because it is not yet unknown how much is the cash to be paid by the customer. She need amount to be entered to end the transaction it i think. It is so embarrassing and that before i go to the counter to punch, i check if i have enough money.

This has only happened to me on a small scale, like I left my wallet with my wife who was waiting with the dog outside of the supermarket and I had to go and get it, I usuaully feel around for my money to make sure that I haven't left it behind but you are right it could be a very embarassing moment and it would be tricky to know what to do.

I would be so embarrassed but I would hope my wallet was just in the car and not home. If its in the car I would let the next person in line go and then run and get my wallet. If its at home I would ask the cashier to leave the bags near her area and I would be right back with my wallet. It would still be so embarrassing.

I work in a grocery store and i can tell you, this happens all of the time! There really is no need to be embarassed about it, and if the cashier scolds you in some way for this happening, well shame on them, maybe they need to get another training class on proper customer service! I don't know about what they would be able to do for you in smaller stores, but in large grocery chain stores the registers are all computerized, and most have the ability to "save" the order and we can just store the receipt information while you run home or to your car and get your wallet, then when you come back we can recall the information. even in a smaller store that doesn't have this ability, they should be able to close out the sale by telling the machine you paid for it...then when you get back from retrieving your wallet actualy put the cash/check in the til. The bigger issue is when you either cannot retrieve your wallet and come back for your groceries, or in the more common case of a persons debit/credit card getting declined. If you can't come back for some reason, well, the best thing to do would be to apologize profusely and then head out. Someone will take care of your groceries, you won't be expected to put them back. If your card gets declined and you hve no other method for payment, well then it is pretty much the same situation, apologize and leave. No need to make a big scene, don't yell at the cashier, as we have no say over your card being accepted or declined and can't tell you why, you would have to call your bank/credit card company for that info. Just don't do like we have had a few customers do. Call the manger down, raise a big stink, then try to take off with the cart load of groceries anyways! I coudln't beleive that one! Luckily we caught them and called the cops, because that is then stealing.

If the system of your grocery would also be the system here I think you would have not problem if that unexpected situation happened...Again, I appreciate the system of your grocery where you are working...thanks for responding...

Well it can be embarrassing but it has happened to my brother. He had filled in fuel tank of his bike and at the time of payment he could not find his wallet. He had to keep his bike there and return home on foot to get money.
