Hidden twins?

Even though we have gotten an ultrasound that clearly showed one baby, my husband thinks we are having twins still. Why, I am not sure, but he has it in his head that we are having twins LOL I started reading up on multiples and the odds of them being missed in ultrasound - especially ones early on (I was about 9 weeks along when I had the ultrasound done). Has anyone here thought that they were going to have 1 baby only to find out later on or on the delivery table that they were going to really have multiples?

I don't believe this is as common as when you and your husband were growing up. What makes either of you suspect twins? Does twins run in the family? Did you have eggs implanted? I guess I am a little confused as to why you think you are having twins. Do you feel your belly is bigger than the first baby??????

Yes, twins runs in my husbands family. Supposedly, its going to be him or his brother that has twins. I don't remember how big my belly was with my son, he's 10....11 years is a long time to remember such details LOL My belly may be a bit bigger, but I was only 19 and 120 lbs when I got pregnant with my son. The years and being 130lbs makes a difference lol

Okay, so maybe asking if you remember details of the first pregnancy wasn't a realistic question. LOL If it runs in the family, good luck. I am sure they will see the second one before you get to delivery if there are two, especially if you have a 3-d ultrasound.

I dont but the earlier you have your ultrasound the higher the risk of error and there really being two babies instead of one. How many weeks was this ultrasound at?

About 9 weeks. My OB/GYN performed the test. Definitely the quickest ultrasound I have ever had. He pointed out a few things, like the head, arm & leg buds, yolk sac, ect.

It is possible to miss twins but im pretty sure at 9 weeks that they got it right. How many weeks are you now? if you are really concerned ask the midwife to measure your bump if its massivley big they may scan again but chances are the scan was right I had two scans at 9 weeks (one with each baby) and unless baby is right behind the other its slim they will miss it at that stage im sure.

My twins are 10 now. I didn't know I was having twins until I was five months into the pregnancy. The kids must have been laying back to back on that first ultrasound otherwise the dr. would have picked up 2 heartbeats. Since multiples are considered high-risk I was at the specialists office within a couple of days. All I can say is the look on my dr. face after that ultrasound was priceless- he looked like he was going to pass out from the shock.

I have a friend to whom this happened to. She had an early ultrasound that showed one baby but later when she had the 20 week ultrasound they saw the twins. However, her kids are older and I really don't think that happens quite as commonly now as it used to. Just a month ago my best friend had her twins. She found out that she was going to have twins at her early ultrasound despite the facts that their sacs were virtually on top of one another. I think I'd believe you are only having one baby. Hope you have a happy and healthy remainder of your pregnancy.

I think we are having one too but I am not 100% sure. I knew weeks before the pregnancy test was positive that I was pregnant. At one point the idea that we were having twins did cross my mind, but it was after I had taken a pregnancy test. After the ultrasound showed 1 baby, I let the idea drop out of my head, even though it has resurfaced a few times. Really didn't think about researching the odds of hidden twins until my husband brought up the twins thing again. I am happy either way. I would prefer 1 baby over two since I am pretty much doing this alone due to my husbands working schedule and my 10 year old is only going to be able to help out so much (and its not his responsibility)
