Have you read Dead Until Dark, by Charlain Harris?
or Twilight by Stephanie Meyer?
I've become a Twilight fan since all the hype for the series and movie started. And I just devoured Dead Until Dark, the first of the Southern Vamp series [which HBO's True Blood is based on] in a day and a half.
I thought there were some glaring similarities between these two books, firsts of their series;
They both involve a human girl falling for a male vampire, the male vamp striving to get along with humans, and both end with the girl in the hospital.
A couple things were switched around, too, like the mind reading thing- in Dead Until Dark it was the girl who could read all minds except for her vampire's, and in Twilight the vamp can read all minds except for his girl's.
Some plot points were pretty similar, too.
Have you read both books?
What did you think?
I've come to a conclusion that Twilight is kind of a kiddie version of Dead Until Dark.

I haven't seen any of the Twilight series, nor read the books, but I have read all of the books so far from Charlaine Harris's vampire series. I can't wait for the next installment to come out (if I remember right it's due next year March) I will probably read Twilight in the winter when I have more time lol. I've seen the promos for Twilight and I think I got the impression it was for a much younger audience. I think any books dealing with vampires you're going to find a lot of similarities in one form or another, maybe not plot-wise, but in the characters. I haven't seen True Blood series on the tube yet, I don't get HBO and I think that's the only channel where it's being shown right now. When I do get around to reading, or viewing, Twilight, I'm sure in my mind I'll be making comparisons, whether I'm consciously doing it or not lol. I love the way Charlain writes her stories, she sure knows how to spin a yarn that keeps you turning the pages!
