Why are people so intrenched in their camps?

I mean really. THink about it. Why the us vs them BS. Both parties are known for dirty tricks. Both are known for corruption, lying, taking bribes, conspiracies, cover ups and a lot of diry deals and tricks. Then there is just the unquailifed to be there. Peole vote straight tickets. Always vote their "team". Never looking to see if the person is actually qualified and right for the job. It just matters that "our" guy won and other "team" lost and not if he or she should actually be there. So why do people pick a side and defend it with all their might? Why are we defending dishonest people who do not give a crap about us and are only out for power, celebrity statis and money who are willing to use us all to get it. Sure I hear the whole lesser of two evils thing. But that is still voting for evil. Also they say will I agree with the ideals of the party. Ya but is the party actually living up to them? Neither is. They are not even trying. We get paid a lot of lip service at election time. It's all a big pep rally. Then after they get elected they use the media to get "their side" to go after the "bad guys". They use us to wage war on each other. Both sides use propaganda. Look past the party they belong to and actually look at the individual. Their actions. Their words. Look around you. The average american citizen wether democrat or republican is not a bad person or "evil". They are average people living average lives. Your average citizen is not corrupt, lying, stealing, power hunger, and unethical. Yet if you look at our elected officials on both sides and use them as a representation of the people in that party....well then you would think this country is made up of nothing but ruthless, unethical, liars. So why it is we defend these people so passionately? They are not wonderful people. Why do we play the game? What are we really defending? COrruption. Waste. Intolerance. The two parties are always fighting for total dominance and control of the other. It is a war. But really look at the average citizen. Are we at war with people who have different politicals beliefs? No. So why are they in washington? Where is the side that wants to represent all the people fairly and respects peole who have different views? Where is the side that practives honest and open debate and honest attempts at compromise? I am not seeing that from either side. And I have not for years. Sure they pay it lip service. But that is about it. So really....ask yourself....what are you defending and why? And why do we have a government (mainly congress and the house) made up of people who do not a credit to society or their party.

Here's a thought. People who don't line up with one side or the other get crapped on by everybody. I personally think that corrupt democrats and corrupt republicans are really the same animal. I live in Canada and consider myself to be very conservative. Quite some time ago I voiced my opinion of a certain conservative leader who I still think is a two faced liar and was instantly labeled liberal. I have not lived that label down with that circle of acquaintances for almost a decade even though this man's record proves I was right.

That was because your friends were buying into the whole party line thing. Which means defend your elected officials in your party no matter what they do. Intiminate, embarress and harress anyone who dares to speak out against your "party" even if they are right. I hate poeple like that. I defies common sense. They are being used their party and taken advantage of. They need to smarten up because they are the ones paying the price for it and not the elected offical.
