It is amazing what they forget when you are not looking.

Since being on Summer Vacation my son has been doing some school work here and there to keep up with what he learned in school, but it was not until today when he was working on multiplication that I realized just how much he has forgotten over the summer even with the work he has been doing. Have you noticed that your kids forget a lot of what they learn over school breaks? What do you do to make sure they do not forget too much?

You can make copies of their homework. My sister actually used to copy her homework so she could do it twice. I'm not kidding. She was in second grade and couldn't wait to do her long division and multiplication problems. So I guess that could be a way to keep kids from forgetting. If you saved any of their tests or homework, you could write down a few problems yourself from each paper, and present them with some problems to do every couple of weeks.

His teacher did give him the rest of his Math workbook that they did not do in class and some math worksheets. I realized today how horrible his handwriting had gotten over the summer, so he will be working on that this week until school starts next week.

I guess it's a matter of incorporating what they learned in school in their everyday life. Maybe you can take them shopping with you and asking them to compute how much it would cost 5 chocolate bars at a $2 each or something like that.
