Changing last name?

My father and I have never had a good relationship. He was never good to my mother, and I have never felt close to his culture....would it be wrong to take my mother's surname? I feel so much closer to her heritage, my mother has always been there for me so has her family, my father's family sees me as inferior.

I do not think that there is anything wrong in taking your mother's name. If you feel much closer to your mother than to your father then it is good that you use your mother's surname instead of your father's.

I think if you choose to change your last name, that is your own will and you should do it. I had a friend who recently did that, although he chose a name that had no correlation to anyone else-basically he started his own last name all alone! He said he had fee waivers in court and everything, and all he to do was put it in the papaer as a legal notice and it took about 2 motnhs. He just had the name changed on his social security and everything, and who he used to be doesn't exist anymore. He did the same thing as you want to-he wanted nothing to do with his father and so therfore changed his name to have nothing to do with him.
