Have you ever acted on the wrong information?

I was camping at a camp site on Mljet Island in Croatia. It was early in the season so I was the only camper there. My travel guide book said the national park was 1km. It was 15km and so walking there wasn't possible because it was taking so long. I walked some of the way then accepted the offer of a lift. It was a lovely lake with an island in the middle of it. Wow! I was able to get a lift back to the campsite by four Hungarians. I was so grateful to them. I was annoyed that the information in the travel guide book was incorrect. Have you ever acted on the wrong information whilst traveling? Have you ever found out new information after coming home from a vacation?
