I am often a bargain shopper when it comes to books. Unless there is a book coming out from one of my favorite authors or a book that has been recommended to me, I typically try to buy books I can get a great deal on AND that sound interesting. So I'm curious as to where everyone shops for their books to get the best prices? If I'm shopping online for books then typically www.amazon.com and www.bookcloseouts.com are the two places I can find the best deals. If I want to shop in store, I recommend Borders! Last night I went to Borders and they were having a $1 sale!!! I found 3 great books (one of which I almost paid full price for last week!) for $3 total. Can't beat that!!! Plus, Borders has a free membership which will earn you rewards. So what about you???

I don't live anywhere near bookstores, so I have to depend on the internet and the used-book shelves of my local library. I buy almost all my books used, and unless I really need something for reference, I wait until the paperback edition comes out. I shop mostly at amazon.com and half.com. If both have the same book for the same price, I choose half.com, because they charge less for shipping. I"m also a member of paperbackswap.com, and that's the biggest bargain of all. Books cost one credit and you get a credit for every book you send to another member. As long as you only list books that can be sent for one-pound media mail postage, the books you get in exchange will never cost you more than $2.38 (at least until postage rates go up again). Paperback books at the library are only a quarter, but there's not much that I want to read, so it's not my favorite place. Once in a while, though I find something that's a mindblowing bargain.

I've heard of paperbackswap. I always wondered if it was worth the hassle of going to the post office and sending the books out.

I find many free books on gutenberg.net. These are only books that are outside copyright. For latest books I buy paperbacks from the nearby second hand book store.

There is another forum i frequent that has an extensive library of ebooks that you can download for free. And unlike project gutenburg that houses mostly old and classical books, this one have harry potters, dan brown's books, and princess diaries books. Even the twilight saga. Yummy downloads for those who want to read for free.
