Why is fast foods called junk food?

We live in a fast-paced environment and have little or no time for a sumptious, relaxed meal. Because of this, we have no other option but to live on fast foods like burgers and pizzas. Why are they considered to be junk food?

I think to put it very simply, it is food that is mainly precooked and just warmed and thrown together for us. It is usually very high i calorie intake and very bad fr us nutritionally. LOL I love fast food! But, unfortunately, it likes me too and stays on my hips and thighs for years to come!!
