Are you embarrassed to drive a junky car?

I personally would be embarrassed to drive a junky car. I work and I want people to see me in a decent car that runs. I definetly would not want to drive around in ugly, messy, rusty cluncker. That is not me. I do understand that not everyone has alot of money to buy a brand new or nice car. But if you looked around good enough instead of buying the first thing you see you might actually find a half way decent car worth buying. If I drove a junky car I would feel so insecure driving it. I know that for sure.

To be honest i wouldnt care what i was driving, if all i could afford was an "old banger" then so be it, second class driving is better than first class walking The main reason i have a newer car is for comfort and that it wont cause me as much trouble mechanically, not really because its a style or status thing.

I might be embarassed driving a bad car since I have never driven a bad car. Lucky I have an awesome car which I love since its a 45th aniversery convertible mustang so I am very happy and feel blessed that i have such a nice car like that since a lot of people can only dream about having a nice car.

You are indeed lucky to have a nice car. I have had a couple of junkers, a few average cars and one nice car. My nice car, which was a Mazda Millenia, was totaled in the only accident I have ever had since I have been driving. A young boy misjudged his timing when he turned in front of me. Now I have no carbut my husband was able to get a an amusement park's old transport bus so that is what I now drive. It is way too mcuh vehicle for me so I am hoping to get a car soon.

As long as the car can make it to the desired destination, that is the main thing I care about. I do not have car payments now and that helps a lot.

LOL I wouldn't care if I drive a junky car. Here in my country there are lots of it. And not just junky cars but junky jeeps which are used in transporting farm goods. I don't know but I guess I'm not that insecure, as long as you know you're not driving a hot car, it really doesn't matter.

A car is something that must go with the personality. A Junkie car can never attach itself with the personality of someone (in some cases it can be). I would also feel insecure and bit inferior driving it.

Nope, I would be embarrassed if I couldn't drive a car! I don't care how the car is like, as long as it doesn't blow up on me and do it's job, moving.

I always thought I would feel that way about a junky car. My first two cars were nice but after that I had a couple of junkers. Actually one of my favorite cars was the one I paid $100.00 for. It had a button for a horn, the ignition was rigged up crazy and it had a big hole in the floorboard so you could see the street as you were driving. That was kinda cool! My nieces and nephews use to laugh at my car but they loved to ride in it. My nicest car was a Mazda Millenia but it was totaled in an accident that was not my fault. Now I drive my husband's big resort bus which is way too much vehicle for me but hopefully I will get a car soon and if it has to be a junker, I'll gladly take it with absolutely no embarrassment!

Reliability is all I care about. The person with the new car, washes it daily, Don't slam that door, is picky with people who ride in it, looses money as soon as they drive off the lot. A guy in an old car slams the door, says hop in no matter how you are dressed or eating.Who cares if you drive in a few potholes. Who is really happier?? I took a vacation with the money I saved. When people ask me about my klunker, I say I bet you couldn't have kept it running this long!! Hey, if she gets a little rusty, just throw a little house paint on her. This keeps rust down plus helps all your friends out. Gives everyone something to talk about. They are never bored around me!! No matter how insecure they feel about their own car, they never worry cause when I show up, we know who will get talked about!!

no, i am not. i not care what care i am driving, as long as the car is in a condition to run, then good enough for me. i would rather save the money for new car to buy a better house. after all, you are not going to stay in the car for 8 hours or more a day, am i right ?

There are two main reasons why I am not embarrassed about my car. Yes it is a junker, it is ugly and 3-toned (I count rust as a tone) and it runs a bit rough: Reason 1- No one bothers my car. I actually have a really nice sound system, and when a rash of burglaries happened in my neighborhood, my car was not bothered. Hell I don't even lock my car any more, but if my neighbor did that with his Acura everything inside would be gone. Reason 2- I OWN it. No payments, lower insurance and it is MINE. Mine, mine, mine, mine! I love my car! I have personally put over 100,000 miles on it. And it is a part of me. :D Question for you, why would you feel insecure? What if that rusty bodied, dented car was all you could afford? Or even- better yet- it was your first car? I am very proud of my junker. And because of the current financial situation I am in I am VERY proud to have gotten a car at all after my Neon threw timing and a rod. And believe me I looked! I looked and looked and looked and almost lost my job because of the crappy bus system around here. Then I found my beat up old grand prix.

well for me, as long the sound system is good, the AC is Ok, the shock for the wheel is fine, and the car can run, I'm ok riding it, LoL well, although I might get irritating seeing the body and the rest of it look ugly, -_-, but, I thinking about it, I'll worked hard to re-modify to a cooler car, LoL, what can I say? although I just like "any car is fine," but I like to try to find the best looks for my car by drawing it, making my design come true in my car, LoL. . .

I drive a 1995 Fiat Uno 1400, the car ha been serving me well eva since i last bought it, the only reason i would want a new car is the fact that when travelling long distances most cars lately eliminate road noise and you do not try hard to get them going as with the old cars. Most importantly new cars save fuel which seems to be on the rise lately.

I think I sorta would be embarassed. A car can tell alot about a person.

Well, my car used to be nice as I bought it almost new, but that was a few years ago, and anymore my car is looking a little beat. I recently hit a deer, and although I have full coverage, I can't afford the deductible right now, so I am driving artound with a crunched hood. Just last week, my window jammed alittle as I was rolling it up. And now all the doors seem to squeak when they open. LOL But it's my car, we have history, and I just recently paid off the loan, so it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. LOL

As long as the car ran, and got me to where i was going it would not matter to me what it looks like.

Well I have had to buy those ugly rusty cars to be able to get a job so I can pay the rent and bills so I have a home to live in. If it were a choice to have a nice car or the bills paid... Bills paid---Hands down. With this economy the way it has been and is still at, not everyone has that option and actually some have had to get rid of that luxury to get something ugly and old in order to pay the bills to keep the roof over their head. Looking beyond your statement of taking the first ugly rusty messed up car, if that is a choice you don't buy it unless you test it or take it to someone you know that can tell you it will last you at least a year or more if its the cheapest your found and it works, well. It is what it is, it makes it easier for someone to get out there to pay their bills, get a few extras to help the income of those that make the money on those items we need that just keeps going up in price to PLEASE THEM STOCK HOLDERS..... and the circle continues.....we all need each other to some degree. Unless us cheap people become more of the majority and only by what we need and get by, makes it hard for the stock holders to make a profit then...lol That could make or break some of those people that look down on us folks here and see what we go through to survive day by day.

My feeling on this is that I'd be happy to have any sort of car to drive as long as it got me from point A to point B and back again. These days, no one can afford to be too picky about what they drive; the more money they save on anything, the better.Personally, I'd just be glad to have my own car, period. lol

No, I would not be embarassed to drive a junky car. Now, my car is not a junky car, it is a 2003 Honda Civic that still looks new for the most part. The body has a lot of people convinced that it is a newer car than it is. However, our second car at this time is junky. It is a 1989 Toyota Truck. It runs really well but is worn out as far as the body. I'm not embarassed about it at all because I know it is going to get us where we go and I don't see our vehicles as a status symbol.
