Cats don't have any more lives than any animal, but they are very adaptible, so they can survive under conditons that might kill other animals. But I think that the idea probably came from seeing a cat fall, without being killed, from a height that would probably kill any other animal. Their flexibility is a big factor in how well they can survive accidents.

A very probable answer indeed. Like you say, it could be because of the flexibility and control to land on their feet when falling from a great height which probably gives them this tag.

I don't know where the saying came from, but I wish it were true, then my cat Sweetums would still be with us.

Very sorry to hear about Sweetums, bestboy. I wish it were true for sweetums sake, but cats have great adaptability and can survive in extreme conditions which other animals can't. This may be the reason why people say that cats have nine lives.

I have also heard this phrase but I donot believe this. Its only a rumour and nothing else. Cats have nine lives is just a phrase and doesnot posses any reality in it. Well some people believe that this is true and they also have their own explainations on this. Their is only a narrow line between fact and myths and sometimes both facts and myths are on the same track and its becomes much difficult to make out what is fact and what is myth.

I think cats have many resourcs as animal in amny difficult an dangerious situations so for that people say they have nine lives than other animals as well or pets!!I think from a point of view is real...because i saw many cats did dangerous things that for all other animals would be really dangerous and they saved themsleves without problems...so may be it is true...

I think you have a valid point there. Cats are known to be extremely dynamic in nature and face dangers head-on. This is probably why the say these things about cats.

Because it's very hard to kill cat. have you tried to throw down cat from some height? it always grounds on its feet. No matter from what height you throw it down it won't die. And also cats have really great instinct of keeping themselves alive.

They are very adaptable and can survive in most conditions which many others would find hard to survive in.
