when does a person take advantage of copy and paste?

I see people who can copy and paste things, and some of these people simply write a couple of sentences that are their own thoughts, but copy paragraphs from news sites. Like these or this person will copy almost an article, frequently, and sometimes only give 1 sentence, in all caps, of her own. She sometimes doesnt even give her own thoughts when she comments to people, she just copies and pastes..... This person is not new, they have been around a long time, and have had many other discretions that I reported, but I have realized that they are just never going to get cancelled Do you think it is wrong or spam to only have one or two original sentences, but the rest is paragraphs of copied and pasted paragraphs?

That is very sad. I always thought that people here share original perspectives. No wonder some people have reached a large number of entries. I thought their brains have always created new insights and added them here. The administration should look into this. Several users have advised me about the length of entries I should be posting. It seems the system looks into it carefully. Not the content then? Sad. Sad. Sad. I believe that your concern should be heard. Life is already unfair. At least, we can make mylot.com out of the list of those biases.

You are so right, even when I respond to discussions that are simple and would require a simple answer, I still try my best to draw my answer out and embellish on it. These people who copy and past long things are an insult to mylotters like you who put effort into their topics and responses.

Yesterday I faced this c/p problem. I red the alert and happens I faced many times many different kind of spam and copywrite rules broke so I understand .. But .. I am not a native english speaker and, to be able to "generate" pieces of writings as close of spelling and grammar as possible, I have the habbit to - often - write it on my editor (notepadd++) which have a spellcheck buoilt in (well, addon, but is not important). I do this often and not only here, but also when I make large responses on peoples blogs or forums and sometime even before I post in my blog. I missed 3-4 answers to articles here, yesterday, because of this. And more, I have a huge collection of jokes which I would want to select and some to put here, to share with mylotters .. but I cannot c/p .. some are long and I have no time nor mood to re-write'em ..

I think that copying and pasting from news sources is okay when you are sharing news. Otherwise you need to put in originality in your posts. Even when you answer two of the same questions I think you should put originality in it.

I've only seen one person here copy and paste the same response under similar topic discussions. He even copied and pasted the same response under my discussion and the response had nothing to do with my topic, that's when I said something to him about it and he told me that he wasn't looking when he was typing and accidentally posted the message under mine. Can you believe it? lol I think it's wrong for a person to plagiarize and copy and paste the same response over and over again because it shows that they are careless and did not put in much effort into what they are posting.

Hello spicysweetie21, Yes. I think it is wrong and unfair when someone copies and pastes articles and pretends to have written them. I have nothing against them just showing the article but using it for there own is copyright abuse. But I guess those people are part of the system and won't disappear. Cheers! Thok

I know exactly what you mean Mike, about this user, she makes me so mad, but hey her ridiculousness has made me some money, she pisses me off so much that my mom and boyfriend, ex boyfriend now , boy that's depressing me now, but seperate subject..............well they know who she is, whenever i say "oh guess what i saw on mylot last night" they always know that it is about this user and my mom always says before i can even start "what did____ do say this time?" and my mom has also gotten very pissed off at the the user stories that I have told her, so thats part of why she says that, because she knows that it must be this user that can get me worked up

How did you guess who I am talking about? But yes, you are right. And I am amazed that it seems that mylot rules slide right off as well, no matter what I report, even the most offensive act that in my opinion a mylotter can make, and you know what I am talking about with this person, and she never gets even a suspension. It seems like she is here to stay, so I guess I have to get used to the copy and paste *sigh*

I do take advantage of copy/paste of articles I see, and of course give a link so a person can read the entire article for themselves...one of the reasons I give excerpts from news articles is that I've learned from the past that more often people DON'T bother to go to the article link and read the entire thing, so yes, do copy excerpts, but I always make sure I give my own input of the article, and more than just a sentence or two. There used to be a member here who did discussion after discussion of news items and did copy/paste and did two things wrong: 1). she would copy the entire article and not give a link...so in effect was a form of plagiarism and 2). Never wrote ANY input of her own, in her own words about the article

I think its totally fine to do excerpts, because that sometimes is the only way if you have a long discussion you want to start, so you have to break it up and give your opinions on the sections, otherwise it just doesn't make sense. I think maybe the person you are thinking of is the same as the person I am talking about.

It depends upon a person's mentality.. I have a friend, who even copies a loveletter to send to his lover...

that isn't a discussion at all. the person doing this is probably just trying to make as many posts as possible, either for money or some other reason. does mylot delete them?
