The USA does have a chance to regain dominance in the Sprint relay but it is a slim one as long as Usaib Bolt is around. The World Championships of Track and Field will be held Berlin August 2009. The USA is still smarting from being beaten in the 100 and 200, where Usain Bolt blasted new world records and in the 400 meter relay. Carl Lewis anchored 1984 team held relay mark of 37.42 but it was demolished by Jamacia at the 2008 Beijing games. Jamacia ran an astrounding 37.10 with Bolt running the third leg and sprint veteran Asafa Powell burning anchor. The United States dropped the baton on the third exchange between Darvis Patton and Tyson Gay. Patten and Gay will return in the World Championship to try to challenge Jamacia. They will likely be joined by 200 meter specialist Shawn Crawford, 400 meter champion Lashawn Merrick and anyone else the US can muster to try to go against the Jamacians. The US sprinters chances are limited in the individual 100 and 200 with Bolt still in his prime and seemeingly only getting better. The US sprinters can only hope for a little injury or divine province to slow down the tall jamacian.
