Why is the US post office and court closed on sundays?

If the post office and the court are run by the united states government, and we are based upon "separation of church and state" if sunday is considered a holy day or something religion tied. What's the excuse if it isn't religion related to close US government services (not just general businesses)? Not just because of this example, but I always think the US isn't 100% church from state separated. Thoughts/Opinions?

You pose an interesting question. Perhaps they should close on Tuesdays each week. That would work! I am sure it would conflict with some religion's holy day, but it would separate from the main stream religious folks... hate to say it but there really isn't any separation of church and state.. it's not really possible as every war has roots in some sort of religion! Coming to America had roots in religion...they like to talk about it.. but it cannot be done.

That might be a good idea. Maybe it's not tied to religion but because most people have sunday as a family day or get stuff done day, but we can't get stuff done if the post office and court are closed.

The people who work in the court system or the post office need a day of rest. It has nothing to do with religion. The postal workers they work very hard and are on their feet a better part of the day. Now the post offices will probably only be working 5 days a week soon because they are thinking of doing away with another delivery day of mail to us the customers. I think it has to do with less usage of the postal service due to email and the internet.

Well why don't they just hire a few more people like other businesses? I would say postal service is somewhat comparable to a grocery store in that it's a good thing to have all days of the week.

Keeping the court and post office has nothing to do with church. It is humans working in those places and they need rest.
