Why? It doesn't make sense...

Alright, does this happen to you? Last night I drank a huge glass of water as I'm in bed, about to go to sleep. When I wake up, I felt SO dehydrated! WHY? It doesn't make logical sense to myself. Same thing with food, if I eat before going to bed, I'm absolutely starving when I wake up! Should I see a doctor about this? Or is it...kind of....normal?

Really? that's a bit strange.. i dont think your body would become so dehydrated from sleeping because you're not losing any water in you... ( not through sweating and you're not peeing either ).. hmm im not sure.. and about eating im not quite sure either because I eat before i go to bed and when i wake up i feel full. I wouldn't say it's abnormal or anything to worry about but next time you do visit the doctor for any reason mention this to him and see what he has to say! For now i say just drink and eat in the morning and you'd be fine! good luck!

I do think that you should see a doctor. Check to see if you are pre diabetic or you are lacking in something. It also could be that your room is a bit too hot, there is not enough humidity, and also you may have too much covers on at night. Maybe if you drink water not before bed, but a little at a time and do not eat before you go to sleep it might help.

candy do get checked for diabetes,it doesnt take long a nd if thats not the problem you will feel safe and know you are okay.if you are prediabetic a lot can be done to keep from fully developing diabetes,so be safe not sorry. I mention this because I had the very same symptoms as you state and took me awhile to go to the doctor so I had f ull blown diabetes. so just take that quick test and rest peacefully.

The family Practitioner wasn't there unfortunately, but I'll keep trying! My dad is diabetic (well to him he's not, because he hasn't been fully diagnosed....even though his eating habits changed greatly tsk tsk)

I have that problem too. I think because I don't drink enough water during the day contribute to ti as well as sleeping with my mouth open. I do know that i'm starving in the morning if I eat before going to bed too. I also have to get up several times during the night to go to the bathroom and get a drink of water

What did you had for dinner? if it is full of fiber food?, if it is then those fiber will suck all your water which you drank...else, you might have had some non-veg like chicken or mutton... both need much water, for digestion purpose.. that will be the process might have taken in your body last night.. don't worry about that...

ok.....I'm not saying I'm thirsty when I eat before bed, I'm not saying I'm hungry if I DRINK before bed. I'm saying I wake up starving if I eat up to 2 hours before bed. I'm reaaaaallly thirsty when I wake up if I drink right before bed. Not both. And to the best of my knowledge, because of high school science (most likely changed since then, but who fricking knows??) you don't digest food when you're sleeping, or it just does it reaaaaaaaaaallly slowly.

Yes I understand the process of eating obviously. The ISSUE, is that let's say I eat at dinner, around 6. I go to bed about 10-11PM and sleep 8 hours, and I'm not starving. Now let's say I eat at say 8 or 9 PM, go to bed the same time and sleep the same amount of time, when I wake, I am starving, as if I STARVED myself before going to bed, which obviously not the case. Got it now?

Maybe you have heat wave like we have here in Chicago, so your body may need more water during the day, not only at night... I don't think you have make an alarm about, just keep drinking more during the summer time...

I live in Calgary and the summer is just almost painful because of the heat, and we're landlocked also, so not even a nice cold breeze, dang I miss Nova Scotia with a passion! And it's not just water, it's with food too, drink late, more thirsty, eat late, more hungry, all in the morning after having my 8 hours.

candy no its not normal but it is withing the first signs of what I suffer with too, diabetes, one of the first signs is being so darn dehydrated. You even dream of water and often one glass is not enough and if you have sugar left in your blood you willwake up hungry because the sugar didnt get into your muscles instead. see your primary care doctor and ask to be checked for diabetes. a test will tell whether or not I am right and if you arent hurrah for you.

dag nabbit! More people saying it might be diabetes....but I like my sugar! *pout* but it is a good chance that it is that...I'll mention it to my doctor when I go for my follow up for my injury to something else completely not related.

I don't think it's a big problem, I haven't found that I have it, but if you can eat or drink something upon waking and that takes care of the urge you should be alright. Maybe someone with medical knowledge can give you a better answer.

Urge? The starving thing? Oh that's not an urge, it's my stomach saying it's empty, more than ever ha ha. But I find it Uber odd that if I don't have a late supper the night before, I couldn't be bothered, this is what confuses me... actually my roommate stated the same thing happens to her...

You actually sweat several pints of water into your mattress every night when you are asleep! Not a very nice thought I know, but it's true. I think the average human sweats something like seven pints a day.

dehydrated after sleeping ? unless you sweat like nobody business when you sleep, it is not quite possible you will dehydrate. looks like you are very high metabolism kind of people. i think if the conditions continue, then is better to seek treatment from a doctor. sorry cannot provide much advice here, because i am not a subject expert of your case.

I DO have a high metabolism (but lately you wouldn't be able to tell because of those pesky pounds that don't wanna leave!) So hopefully it's that. ONLY that.

What you are feeling right now of being dehydrated and starving are signs of diabetes. Please consult a doctor ASAP to check your blood sugar. I hope I am wrong.

Candymarie, I am not a doctor. However, this happens to me all the time. I have read up on this and what I have learned is, when you are thirsty you are dehydrated. It doesn't me you are so dehydrated that you have to go to the hospital, but you may want to drink more water during the day and see if still happens. If you feel something is wrong, calling your doc won't hurt:}

well just because you dont feel liek you are sweeting doesnt mean you arnt. we are constantly sweating but it evaporates before it collects as water droplets. just make sure you arnt dehydrated thoughout the day and continue to drink some water before sleeping. as for the food, this is also normal, you are digesting when you are sleeping. its perfectly normal to wake up hungry.

Odd, because in my high school science classes (millions of years ago, not really, just since 2002) the teacher said that you do not digest food in your sleep. Another reason this confuses me. And nope, wasn't dehydrated in the day....hrm...

Are you drinking alot of water throughout the day as well, or just at night? If you are not drinking enough during the day, you will feel dehydrated. When you don't drink water, your body will retain whatever amount it gets. But if you're drinking plenty, it flushes through your system enough to not need to retain it.

There can be two reasons 1] When you drank the last glass of water, your body was already dry. So the water you drank gets absorbed by the body leaving no extra water. 2] Your body might be sweating while you are asleep. Or the water evaporates from your skin. Try wearing short and cool clothes while you sleep. Drink a huge glass of water half an hour before you eat your dinner. Before you go to bed again drink a large glass of water. There is no problem with you. Just drink water more often.

How much water do you drink? Maybe you don't drink enough, so even though you drank a bunch before you went to sleep your body is still thirsty the next morning.

I drink a lot of fluids through out the day, which includes at least 500ml of water.

I don't know for sure but I think maybe your body needs water very much. Otherwise you should't get starving so much. If you still feel starving after eating some food, then you'd better turn to a real doctor for help. Good luck~

um, sometimes I also had such feeling. And I never go to see any doctor. Once upon a time, I dedicated to Mars chocolate and must have one before I went to bed. Those days I dreamed a lot about delicious chocolate in different shapes. My mother told me that was just nature because we were what we ate. It may not very easy to understand, but you can imagine. For a sleepman, when you are most unconcious, you may take yourself as water or the food you eat, and would like to make friends with the same thing. Thus you desired to have them during your sleep. Maybe only sensitive persons face such problems, as far as I know. If you do not like the feeling, you had better limit your mouse desire at least 1 hour before sleep. Have good luck!
