Praying - Praying with real faith

Let me begin by saying that I am not an overly spiritual person. By this, I mean that while I believe in the existence of a Higher Power that created this world and looks after its needs, I am not given to spiritual rituals. I am talking about those type of rituals which a person usually does not understand but simply carries out mechanically because it is the done thing. I also do not subscribe to superstitious beliefs. As far as I am concerned, my spirituality must exist in the context of the real world and the real me. In the context of reality and integrity. Lest you think otherwise, I would have you know that I believe in the power of prayer. I believe that those people who set aside to pray sincerely everyday, find, within their moments of spiritual retreat, the strength to face life's challenges and the fortitude to bear the sorrows that no human life can escape from. Prayer nourishes the spirit, encourages patience and gives them a fresh resolve to face the numerous obstacles that come their way. Prayer offers peace and sanctury. But, in prayer, as in all else, the key word to me is "sincerity".

Hi Zandi! You are right prayers if done with sincerity and honesty can do wonders. It is said that "prayers can move mountains". I think those who go for their daily prayers get lots of inner strength to fight their day to day life and it gives them a kind of extra self confidence that the Supreme Power is with them. I think prayers are an effective tool to overcome our fears and apprehensions.

Hi Zandi! As Deepak pointed out I too feel that the saying 'more things are wrought in this world by prayers than anything else'. Moreover it gives the individual peace thta God would always be with us in times of fear and need and would be our eternal guiding force. Sincerity of course has to spring from the heart.A person can recite pages and pages of prayer --in fact a film depicted a scene like this long back-- there is an ardent devotee of the Lord/lady[it is a Hindu Goddess] who looks up to some great pundit who indulges in elaborate prayers and offerings and approaches him to teach him a few prayers. The great man despisees him and shoes him away with telling him thtat he can keep repeating the name of the Goddess without breathing. The naive devotee believes him verbatim and he keeps chanting the name with sincerity and devotion.Just the two words that make Her name. Now what happens?--the Goddess appears before before him and asks him for some food.he offeres his humble food with so much of love.On the other hand the preacher/priest has elaborate prayers and offerings that are not said with devotion. Then in true cinematic fashion the pompous man is taught that his prayers are totally empty and shallow. So much for sharing--so thta is an example.Sincerity is what is called for.

I have had special prayers answered and my daughter is proof of that but I must confess lately I find it hard to ask for anything. I am going through a rather difficult time and learning just how little I can control in my life. The way I see things at the moment, if we are not in control of very much what is the point of making a request because if it is not what God has decided upon, it will not happen anyway so wouldn’t it be easier to hand all to Him and wait for His decision? For example, I am waiting for some test results from my vet in regards to my beloved 13 year old cat; I am worried about him but I cannot bring myself to ask God to make everything okay lest I get my hopes up and He decides it is not meant to be; the pain would be worse. I guess it is a case of expect the worst and everything else is a bonus. I believe Faith is a precious gift and mine is wavering at present.

Just spend more time listening to what God wants of you. God does speak to us. We need to learn to listen. It happened to me so many times, when I least expect it, the answer is right in front of me. There are so many ways that God show us the way.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, As a staunch belieber in my own relegion 'Hinduism', we always pray. I have belief anything prayed properly with relegeous mind brings fruitful results. Praying will remove all ill-feelings in the body. While praying recitation of Mantra should be made correctly:"Om Mani Padme Hum The most commonly used mantra in prayer wheels is Om Mani Padme Hum. This mantra is the resonant vibration that helps tune a human being toward enlightenment energies. This beautiful mantra was given to us by Avalokatishvara (Sanskrit) or Chenrezig (Tibetan), the deity that is the embodiment of compassion. By chanting this mantra one harmonizes in the choral resonance of pure compassion. This tends to have a calming effect and allows one to tame, open and develop the mind"For more log on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_wheel#Types May God bless You and have a great time.

All religions of the world believe in one God. It is only different ways of invoking the power of the Divine inspires us to identify with our Creator. I read that the ancient Hindu scripture Vijnanabhairava describes 112 different methods to calm the mind.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, I wish to bring out following extract from my hubby's discussions earlier about 'Praying' "Why do we have a prayer room ? Most Indian homes have a prayer room or alter. A lamp is lit and Lord is worshipped each day. Other spiritual practices like Japa – repition of the Lord’s name, medication, paaraayana – reading of the scriptures, prayers, and devotional singing etc. are also done here. Special worship is done on auspicious occasions like birthdays anniversaries , festivals and the like. Each member of the family – young or old – commutes with and worships the Divine here. The Lord is the entire creation. He is therefore the true owner of the house we live in too. The prayer room is the Master room of the house. We are earthly occupant of his property. The notion rids us of false pride and possessiveness. The ideal attitude to take is to regard the Lord as true owner of our homes and us as caretakers of His home. But if that is rather difficult, we could at least think of Him as a very welcome guest. Just as we could house very important guest in the best comforts, so too we felicitate the Lord’s presence in our homes by having a prayer room or alter, which is, at all times, kept clean and well decorated.. Also the Lord is pervading. To remind us that He resides in our homes with us, we have prayer rooms. Without the grace of the Lord, no task can be successfully or easily accomplished. We invoke His grace by communing with Him in the prayer room each day and on special occasions. Each room in a house is dedicated to specific function like the bed room for resting, the drawing room to receive guests., the kitchen for cooking etc. The furniture, the décor and the atmosphere of each room are made conductive to the purpose it serves. So too for the purpose of meditation, worship and prayer, we should have a conductive atmosphere – hence the need for a prayer room. Sacred thoughts and sound vibrations pervade the place and influence the minds of those who spend time there. Spiritual thoughts and vibrations accumulated through regular meditation, worship and chanting done there pervade the prayer room. Even whenwe are tired or agitated, by just sitting in the prayer room for a while, we feel calm, rejuvenated and spiritually uplifted." http://www.shivashakti.com/vijnan.htm This very brief tantra, ascribed like many another to the Rudrayamala, is a practical work of yoga full of different methods of realising oneness with Shiva/Shakti. It exists, with Sanskrit text and an English translation, by Jaideva Singh, and is published by Motilal Banarsidas. It prescribes over 100 dharanas, or things to meditate on, which can bring a person to realise that she or he is one with Shiva and Shakti. Referring to the Shiva Sutras, on this site, will help in an understanding of this material. For "vijnanabhairva", I would suggest to visit following Lnk to know more about 'Shiva & Shakti' as below :- http://www.shivashakti.com/vijnan.htm This very brief tantra, ascribed like many another to the Rudrayamala, is a practical work of yoga full of different methods of realising oneness with Shiva/Shakti. Hello Zanidi458! I've been a Christian all my life. Like you I don't believe in a lot of things that others do. Also like you I believe in prayers. I've been going through a lot of trials for a long time now. Financial problems from being laid off from a bank over a year ago. Anyway...If you don't mind, I want to share one of my favorite prayers I pray every day for my finances. Prayer for Help With Finances: Dear God, I surrender my financial affairs and convern about money to your Divine care and love. I ask that you remove my worries, anxieties, and fears about money, and replace them with faith. I have only to look to nature to see proof of the abundance you provide. I release all negative thoughts about money, and know that prosperity is my true state. I commit to being grateful for all that I now have in my life. I learn to manage my finances wisely, seeking helo where needed. And finally, I ask you to help me understand my purpose in life and to act on that purpose with courage and strength. I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love. Please help me use my skills and knowledge to be of service in the world. Thank you, God. Amen. I also believe that just praying is not enough. We have to do good to find good and whatever happens in our lives we have to keep the faith and stay positive... Take care my friend and happy Mylotting! :)

Is this prayer or something else? I too, believe in a higher power, but I believe that higher power is within me and I am somehow connected with this invisible umbilicle cord to it. I believe if I stay positive, give up worrying, laugh more, affirm more, things go my way. When I need to regroup, I meditate using chants. It's very much like prayer. You feel one with this higher power.

I don't insist pray often per day,coz that would spend much time.I don't think pray ofen could do any act to your problem.and,i agree to pray sometimes when you feel eager to be encouraged largely to endure a hard time.thus, pray could just do fact to your selfconfidence.

Sometimes we do reach the conclusion that it is too painful to live life with all the problems that we faced daily. We need higher power to help see us through. Prayers is the only consolation that we can lean on in times of desperation.

I believe that Prayer is the greater power for all of us. but don't expect to have your prayers grant immediately, it's either it's not the right time or you're in for something else. like for example you prayed for something, you don't always get it in time, you either get something better or something else is given to you. it depends, we simply must have faith no matter what.

Right, we should understand that God operates with a different timetable. We need to trust God enough to understand that his timing is better than ours, that He knows what we need better than we do, and he knows when to give it to us.

Prayer is very powerful when all human intervention is impossible, with God everything is possible. Even you are religious or not. I try to spend silent moment with god in my room at night. i speak to him through my mind and i ask him what i desire, guidance and the right decision to guide me all throughout this life. Then, with communicating with God, you could feel peace within yourself a very calming sensation. Then, you will feel that praying is a great stress reliever. Even, you think bad at the moment you start praying, you will observe all of this images, thinking and whatever left in your mind are totally disappear. Then, you could notice that Praying is a great shield against evil thinking and a best weapon to fight the devil, in possessing your mind. Prayer is peace...

Prayer is talking directly to God. Through prayers, we can give thanks to our Creator. My day is not complete without prayer. When praying remember the ACTS: A - Adoration C - Confession T - Thanksgiving S - Supplication When I have problem I prayed and ask God for guidance. Another way of talking to God is though reading the Holy Bible. We should always feed not just our physical body but also our spiritual body. We have time to blog, surf the net, chat and text, so we should also set some of our time in praying and reading the Holy Bible.

You have a nice view regarding prayer. For me, prayer is the key to communicate to God, the Higher Power that you're referring to, to know His will and purpose and to reveal it to me in His time as I submit to His will and obey His commands. Prayer to God is the only key when trials and testings come in our life. I will also add another two key words to answered prayer, that is "humility" and "trust." The two attitude that you can do nothing without God that's why you rely on Him totally and the attitude that you submit your will to His will and obey Him.
