Accommodation in Budapest

I went to Budapest last year and had really good time there. The city is beautiful, food tasty and people are friendly. I am thinking about going there again this September and stay for 6 to 8 weeks, so I can really explore the place and the people. I just wonder what is the best way to find accommodation in Budapest? I am not keen with hostels but prefer local houses and flats (so I can be neighbour of proper Hungarians!). Is there any agent I can look for? Thanks!

I went to Budapest in 1990. I shared a private room with an Australian girl. We arranged it through a booking agent at the railway station. We caught a suburban metro train out to it. It was in a block of apartments and it was with a friendly older couple. I know that single rooms are not as economical as two people sharing a twin room. I suggest you wait until you get there then get a special deal on a private room because you will be staying there for 6 to 8 weeks. If you do arrange a room in advance I suggest you check its location on a map.

I've been trying to find a room on the Internet these days and so far I don't gain anything. Most flats I found are for holiday rent, in other words, they are as expensive as hotels. It is impossible to find a website of any local agent and I am just worried how to communicate with people if I have to rent a house from them, since I speak no Hungarian (and my experience tells me not every Hungarian can speak English). My friend also suggested that I start looking for a room only after arriving there. But it will be more of a relief if my accommodation can be sorted before setting off.
