What's the worst thing your parents did to embarrass you?

For me, it was probably the time Mom sent me to May Company to buy her a bra. I must have been 17 - that's when I got my driver's license. I went and picked up a white 36 D as requested (she wasn't picky about brand or style) and went to the cashier. The lady looked at the bra, looked at me and said, "that can't be for you." Er um no, or I'd be buying some other stuff to stuff it with. Sheesh... Did your parents ever do anything to embarrass you like that? Or did you do anything embarrasing to your kids?

The worst thing that my parent did to embarrass me is when my mom went on her way to the resort where I am and fetch me to go home. I was 20 years old at that time and I was so embarrass because my girl and boy friends are there.

Bring you home why? Just because she didn't like that you were there?

hi dawnald for me it was when I was going with my hubby to be, and I dyed my brown hair blonde. I got off the plane in Rapid city s.D and there were my parents. My dad took one look at me in my new blonde hair and said, well I dont know this lady. do you know where my daughter is? and my mom," What on earth have you done to your pretty hair:" both were so loud and everyone deplaning were looking at me like I had two heads. Then when I got back home, my fiance greeted me with" my god what did you do to your hair? I ought to spank you" again I was embarrassed as there was a goodly crowd hearing his loud comments. ugh and grrr.

I had to wear a long line panty girdle to school when I was 11. I didn't question why but I always had to wear one. On the other hand, I was considered too young to wear a bra even though I was well developed. Of course all the girls at school were wearing them whether they needed them or not...training bras were in vogue then. I was sporty and active and the boys drooled and laughed at me and the girls just pointed, sneered and laughed. I was pretty unaware of myself and it took me a while to catch on but when I did I was mortified.

A panty girdle but no bra? Seems awfully backwards to me...

My foster mom was terrible with stories. I was 19 before I brought my first boyfriend over to meet her, and I made sure he was told all embarassing stories long before he met her. Same thing when hubby met her, he knew every embarassing thing I'd done, from my own point of view, so she just couldn't embarass me. My real mother I thought could be trusted more, but I remember one time I told her not to say something.. a boyfriend was coming over and she and I had been joking around about stuff. I told her "don't say that when he gets here". So he showed up and just to be a goof she said "I'm not supposed to tell you this but...."

That's really smart of you though, making sure that they heard the stories from you first. At least you can't get blindsided that way (unless you forget a story).

Years ago, I worked for a chain of grocery stores, and each Christmas, each store would hold their own catered Christmas party at a fancy hall. My mother used to waitress for the catering company that we had hired so , I knew she would be there that night. I had once explained to my mom how my boss was, and that he was quite the "fancy pants", the term we used to use a long time ago for gay people. So when I told her that our christmas party was going to be this fancy event, she asked me if my boss was going to be there, to which I answered "yes". Well, the night of our party, my mother had approached a table not far from me to serve them their food, and she told the people at that table that she was my mother. And she continued, telling a gentleman at that table, that it was certainly a fancy event, and that her daughter said that it was the wishes of her boss to have it that way, because her boss was this "fancy pants" guy. And as she spoke those words, she waved her hand like you would do to describe someone very feminine. It wasn't until she looked at the others at the table, did she realized that the gentleman that she was talking to WAS my boss.

My mother fealt that it was high time I started wearing training bras. GREAT! We went into a local K-mart and did all of our shopping when she decided just before heading to the check-out to go to the undergarment section. GREAT! I thought. We wondered around for a few minutes when she made reference to the fact that she believed it was time for me to begin wearing training bras. I fought this for a while until I turned around and my mother wrapped a bra around me, over the top of my shirt, to make sure that it would fit. I was so embarrassed as there were many people around.

I try hard to embarrass my girls but, apparently, having me as thier mother has made them immune to it. My mum used to have one of those loud laughs that comedians like and I was a very shy teenager, she embarrassed me every time we went to the theatre. Dad eventually started buying aisle seats so I could sit across the aisle from mum and pretend I wasn't with her.

Hi Dawn! I am a big fan you, you must be knowing it. It was a good one. Pardon me but if I was the sales person there, my reaction would be the same but your answer is the best part of it, "buying stuffs for others to do other stufffs!" LOL! Nah, I don't remember anything like that for two reasons: 1. I am not a girl who would go for byuing a bra! LOL! 2. My memory is little week these days! Ha ha ha ha!

There are so many memories to recall when it comes to being embarrassed. Most of the time, i get embarrassed when she used to call us very loudly with not-so-cool pet names. She was always doing that when she can't see us lying around the high school campus. Like for example, she used to call me "panis" *spoiled/rotten in English* because it rhymes with my name. My classmates where like: "Your nickname's rotten? wahahaha.." and so on and so forth. I regret those times she called me that. Though they still use it til now. But i am not really affected. _

Pet names will do it all right, but why on earth was she changing your clothing out in public like that?

We were young back then. Children like us used to play a lot under the sun. So she always make sure to change our clothes to avoid colds and not to be stinky in class. Our country is quite hot and humid. So she does that everyday after having our lunch. I don't hate her for that. But i was kind of embarrassed when i am being seen by other kids.

there was a lot of things that i can say about it. One, was when I was Elementary and i got a problem and my mom blamed it on the classmate, and started bad mouthing him in front of the class. i was..humiliated and never had a courage to stand up for myself. then, JS prom when i my dad had to accompany me there (first H) then my mom budge in to help, which made them argue and made me even more (second H) H-Humiliated..it was the worst thing ever happened to my life.

I was down with a bad tummy and making frequent trips to the loo. A friend of my father dropped in for some other thing and on learning that I was sick came to my room for courtesies sake. My mother then started a detailed description on the number of trips to the loo, how weak I had become, how often I get it and so on! The guy had a cute daughter and I had been trying to impress him. I think you understand my situation.

My mother used to do all kinds of embarressing things to me as a child lol. I think the most occuring embarressment was when she would alwayysss make me give her like 10 kisses whenever I was leaving to go anywhere, LITERALLY lol. Id have to run back to her and kiss her again if she wasnt satisfied. And when you are a teenage girl at the time, that's not "cool" lol

I had a good laugh reading your bra shopping experience. Dawnald I like your humour in your postings. I can't remember anything embarrassing that my parents did to me.... Up till now I am trying not to be an embarrassment for my son, although I am sure that in a few years he would say dad you are embarrassing....

Sometimes it's hard to know what will embarrass a child though. We tend not to be embarrassed by the same things that would have really bothered us when we were younger!

I can't remember my parents doing anything to embarass me but I am sure I have done plenty to embarass my kids.....when they were growing up they had a curfew.....if they weren't home at a certain time I would go looking for them....show up at a party or whatever and that was very embarassing....this was a last resort thing though....if they called before curfew time and I knew where they were and when to expect them home no problem.....I only had to do it once and they followed the rules after that! They didn't want mom showing up to take them home!

Well, my grandmother did something to embarrass me. We were at the restaurant and just finished eating. I needed to go to the bathroom and my grandmother went with me (though I said I didn't need her too). There was a long line and we waited for awhile. Then this lady came with a stomach ache and asked us if she could go first. the lady in front of us said okay except my grandmother started yelling at her for cutting in line and grabbed my hand and shoved me into a bathroom stall. She wouldn't let me get out. It wasn't even my turn. Awwww but she is still my grandmother

Well I can think of one time that wasn't as much as embarrasing as unpleasant, but it felt very embarrasing to me at the time. My mom sent me across the street to go buy her some menstrual pads, which of course I felt like saying ewww. Anyway I knew that there was going to be a boy at the counter that I knew. So I went to go buy it with all quarters!(my mom isn't so big on using dollar bills) and bought them, and the boy looked at me and laughed. It was so embarrassing. And to top that off, another boy from my school came up to me and said hello, and saw what was in the bag. I thought I was going to die. I don't have any kids of my own at the moment, but I'm sure when I do, I'll embarrass them plenty .
