Well naturally being an American I would have to say America...LOL. Yes, we do have our problems...there is violence, hate crimes, etc. but our country we have the freedom to say what is on our mind without fear or being punished as what might happen elsewhere...women have better freedom here as well and also aren't dictated to how they should "behave" as in other countries, especially the stricter Muslim countries where many women are suppressed and oppressed (thinking of Afghanistan in this case). While some people in our country may not understand (or tolerate) all the religions involved, in our country every religion is represented here and people can worship the way they want to.

Hi pyewacket, yes no matter where we come from, we have to be patriotic about our own country. Nevertheless, I often look up to the US, UK and Australia because of the reasons you have mentioned - those are the issues that are missing from my country.

The greatest county as far as I am concerned is my own country India. It might have have its own faults, but still it is a great and ancient country. Nobody, including its citizens have understood its cultures or its greatness.

I don't think I can fairly answer this without being a citizen to another country. Sure, Canada seems like a sure-winner from what I've heard, but I would really need to be a Canadian citizen to actually know. I would need to experience Canada in all its essence to answer if I would truly want to be a citizen of Canada over a citizen of the United States. Australia is another country I would like to experience, as well as Thailand, Japan, India, South Africa, and Greece. Of course I can always go to these places as a tourist, but that would only give a tourist perspective. I have been to West Germany when it was West Germany, late 60s, early 70s, as a US "Army brat." My experience was as such, the family of an army sergeant helping to protect Europe from the USSR. I can look things up on the internet, but that would only give an internet researcher's perspective. The only experience I have is being a citizen of the United States. Not that I think the United States is the "best;" it's just that I don't have enough information about other places to definitely say, "_____ (fill in the blank) is the best." To me that is unanswerable until I at least visit the place, talk to the people.

May be we may say different countries, actually, they and we are in the same world due to IT world has become a small village. Let us esteem every country so that we can co-exist here.

I wouldn't want to be biased. To be frank, there is no "greatest country on this planet". Each country has its own beauty; each country has its own ugliness. I do agree, however, that people prefer to be in one country over another. It's their choice. But the greatest country? Nah, I think there's none. Cheers! :)

I would think Canada. There's been a lot of wars in a lot of countries but I seldom hear of war in Canada. Also Canada have universal health care and cares for all of its citizens. Canada seems to be the most peaceful place to live.
