Hilarious - In jail for yawning

A man named Williams in Chicago is facing six months in jail for making what court calls a yawn like sound. The other people in the court disagree that the Williams yawn was out of the line. But the judges felt that he delibrately did it an they considered it as a contempt of the court. Williams think that he is in jail for nothing. He has been sentenced for six months as the judges can maximim of six months sentence without a Jury trial. Personally I felt it a bit hilarious. What would you have done if you would have been in such kind of situation?

This is a judge that has serious problems and there is no way I would be staying in jail for 6 months because I yawned. I would be fighting this all the way to the supreme court. What a stupid judge.

I think that even that guy will try to fight his case. No way somebody can be silent when he has been jailed for absolutely no mistake of his own. I think after the first hearing of this case the person should be freed and the judge should be put on trial for doing such a silly thing.

This is the first time I heard that yawning is an offence. I personally think that 'yawn' is something beyond our control. It is contagious too! I read somewhere that we cannot yawn with our eyes open... Even the 'yawning emoticons' eyes can't be seen when it yawns...

ha ha ha... good observation... even in this yawning smiley the eyes are not open. I do not know if it is possible to open eyes while yawning, but I have read somewhere that it is not possible to keep the eyes open while sneezing. But we do not have any sneezing smiley which can tell us the truth...

Well, if I was put in jail for yawning, I would consider it an outrage. Sometimes a yawn can catch you unawares and you can inadvertently make a noise whilst doing it. How on earth can that be considered contempt of court. Maybe Williams should fight this with his lawyers and get some redress on this issue. I know I would. It would be a matter of principle. There is only one thing that may have been missed out in the report and that was Williams' attitude after the judgement. If he had just apologized and forgot about it, would the judges have let it go? Was he rude or insolent to the judges? They don't tend to like that. The media does like to sensationalize some things and maybe there's more to the story than has been reported. - Derek

I mean it seems impossible to happen something like this. But you never know these things can happen in life. And you are right, sometimes we can not stop that noise while yawning. Only thing is that here the judge thought that it was done delibrately and it is a contempt of the court. While Williams said he didn't do it delibrately. There will be a trial and if he apolozises to the judge then his sentence can be reduced. But I think the judge should be put on a trial in case Williams is found not guilty.

That's such a waste of the tax payers' money. The judge should have given him community service instead. At least that way he would not have to be housed and fed using the tax payers' money. Instead, he'd be using his time to complete tasks around the community.

yes this is such a waste of the taxpayer's money. Also this is waste of the time of the court as now he will be put on a trial and then be punished if found guilty. Punished for yawning. I think if he is found not guilty the judge should be put on trial and should be punished instead for doing this.
